    It will register as 1AMP1.com (the AMP is for ampersand or the "&" symbol) or just plain 11.com (two short...must be 3 letters/numbers). Symbols are not allowed in domain names.

    I've used 1and1 for 2 years now for all of domains, without hosting and have had no problems so far.

    Yea they're fine..i think they sell domains for $4.99 or something. Easy to manage, change nameservers, etc. Support sucks though so thats just a heads up!

    Agreed, I had a hosting package with them and their support was real slow. I had no other problems besides that though.

    i have had problems w/ trying to get rid of a doamain.
    I followed some instrauctions on their site, but I guess they felt like I still wanted the domain and renewed it.

    If any1 can shed light on how to get rid of domains from there, plz tell.

    Thanks.,

    They're seriously the worst registrar I've ever dealt with. I'd never do any kind of business with them if you're serious about it. As much as Godaddy sucks for hosting, they're OK for domains. I've also never had problems with www.HostMySite.com (I think they're doing $4 domains this month as a special actually if you're thinking about 1&1 just because they're cheap).

    cancel.1and1.com always use that when canceling their products. Makes it really easy.

    They cost me a site worth $700 at least when their payment system was down for 2 weeks, and I couldn't pay it, then they sent the site to a collections agency.
    and NO ONE could do ANYTHING about it.

    stay away from 1and1, use godaddy or another reputable company with decent support. (DO NOT USE godaddy for hosting however)

    I had a problem with 1&1 when tried to register 2 expired and just released domain names.
    I paid for them, 1&1 accepted my amex, but then in approx. 12 hours sent an email asking for driver's license to confirm my address and identity.
    Both names are gone on that moment!
    So I lost the names by their fault,
    I wish I used godaddy or another registrar...
    Avoid.

    1and1 = bad

    I had a few domains hosted with them, and I was about to transfer them to Namecheap, and they held them from me. I had to argue with support just to get them released and transferred to Namecheap.

    From my experience, I would avoid 1&1. I now use NameCheap and it should be easier to sell the domains too in the future with their free push system. As far as I know 1&1 don't have this option - at least they didn't when I used them in the past..

    Based on bad comments from other webmasters:
    • I transfered over 20 domains away from 1and1
    • Every transfer went very smoothly with no trouble. :confused:

    Based on their low price, and my previous good experience:

    • I now have ~15 domains with them, and was just (last week) able to transfer 2 away (with no problem)

    ~~~
    1and1 offers
    1. Low price
    2. Free transfers away from 1and1
    3. Lousy customer service
    4. No free pushes to other 1and1 accounts
    Conclusion: If you own a small number of domains, don't use 1and1.
    If you own 'mucho-loco' number of domains, then 1and1 has been fine (for ~10 to 20% of a portfolio), and I don't expect any real trouble in the future.
