I have a question about if something would be considered an adwords violation. Simply put, is it possible for a company to have 2 websites that sell the exact same products to advertise both of the websites in adwords ? Example: Both of these websites sell widgets Under the sponsored Links www.widgetsshopping.com, and www.widgetsonline.com show up Both websites sell the same exact products
I take it that it is the same company, but just different URLs. If that's the case, there should be no problem with Google. However, it doesn't really seem worth it to overlap your advertising between two sites that have the exact same products. If one had a wider selection of products, maybe, but it just feels like you are competing with yourself. I would try and realocate to one site vs the other, or maybe divy advertising for specific product groups.
But doesn't this only apply if both both adverts point to the same landing page? blkg35's example shows different URLs. I understand Google's policy, as highlighted by your link, but isn't Google saying that you cannot have multiple, different adverts pointing to the same page?
If they are 2 different urls and 2 different pages wouldn't you want to use this for testing...run ads for one and see how much better it does than no ads?
No. It's saying a single company can't have two or more ads show for the same keyword. The policy is in place to prevent companies from opening 10 adwords accounts and locking up page 1 results with their own ads.
I think its fine the only thing they don't like is having all ads showing the same website come up for a search its like spam
And that's why you should read the thread before responding It's not "fine", it's a violation of the double serving policy.
Yes of course its OK, how do you think Affiliate marketers work You will have to set up two separate Google accounts.
Not sure if anyone's said this yet, but it's not allowed. I used to work for a large mail-order catalogue company, and when we merged with another company, we were told very clearly that we were only allowed to bid once on each keyword, even though the brands were still being run as totally separate entities. To quote Google (for those who are too busy to click on the link from earlier)... We do not typically permit advertisers to manage multiple accounts featuring the same business or keywords. When we find that an account is not in compliance with our double-serving policy, we will prevent multiple ads from appearing on the same query. Advertisers seeking an exception to Google's double-serving policy must contact AdWords Support. We take the following into account when reviewing requests: The destination site for each ad offers different products or services (for example, a large manufacturer with two product sites, one solely for stereos and one solely for computers, both running on keyword 'electronics'). Each destination site has a different layout and design, and each URL and domain is different. The following criteria are not considered for exceptions: Target audience such as B2B (Business to Business), B2C (Business to Consumer), and gender. Business structure such as different divisions within same company. Accounts handled by various 3rd parties such as agencies and SEOs(search engine optimizers).
Thank you everyone for your responses. I went and read the double-serving policy and now i see clearly the answer to my question. I submitted this to Goolge 3 days ago. I have yet to hear anything from them on this issue and as it currently stands nothing has changed, meaning that both of the ads are still running. Does anyone know how long it takes for Google to take action about something like this? Thank you for all the help
Days....weeks...months, it all depends. Sometimes, in the "right" situations, Google doesn't care about double serving.
