thats weak. perhaps they are going the same route that google is going which is they hide most of your backlinks from link:wwwsitename.com or maybe they are not following no follow now ?
does the domains that are linking to your site currently index i? BTW i have notice the same behavior with my site too.. short answer is backlink algorithms may be changed recently. may showing only relevant backlink etc.
Artificial link building, leads to links that are devalued by Google. Sitewide links are definitely worthless.
That is an absolutely inaccurate statement. If you ran proper tests, you would see sitewide links, while not worth every link you get, are worth more than a single link. Sitewide link being worthless is just another piece of SE FUD running around.
Absolutely inaccurate???? You work for Google??? I run proper tests, it's called sitting at # 1 on Google for more keywords than can be kept track of. Thanks for the call out and I'll be glad to provide proof should you be in doubt. A sitewide link practice, would mean all the links come from the same IP address, and C Class server, which Google has addressed in their patent applications. Basically they're worthless but feel free to prove otherwise. It would also fall under what is known as a 'link scheme' and which is addressed by Google itself here; http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66356 Don't know when you were first employed by Google as to be able to ascertain that any statement I made is wrong.....could you provide proof that it is wrong, or are you merely speculating as well? As for proof of concept, use your sitewide link theory to get to the top of Google for an easy term ...lets say 'custom top 8' I'll be waiting for you to move my site Peace!
I can't remember exactly where we were at, but it's much lower now. I have been pulling out my hair the last couple days over this. Glad to see a post about it!!
Yes : They are worthless. They get noticed by google etc as they look unnatural. No : The quantity of high PR links that a sitewide can bring gives great results.
Does custom top 8 send much traffic? It hardly looks worth optimizing for let alone using it to prove a point.
If they had value.. then many people would be on the front page of Google. However we all know this is not the case. If sitewide links did have an effect, then Google Yahoo MSN & Ask would take up most of the front page results on all major search engines. In addition sites such as CNN, BBC, Myspace, iVillage, and any site with 100,000s of pages could boost themselves to the top of results with the tactic. Google however sees these links and filters them to 1 or so of value instead based on IP Address or C-Class of the server. Anyone who wants to prove otherwise, need only set up several sites on their server, build sitewide links, and try to get to Googles front page for a mid competition level keyword term.
Sends traffic everyday Wasn't truly much optimization to be done...one of 100s I play with. I made $9,300.00+ in September.....something must be going right, though that is not the point I suppose. So my thought was, it's a mid level competitive term someone who is confident about sitewide links should be able to knock me out of the top for. Hope this answers your questions.
Back to the original question. My sites drop on a regular basis (every month or two) and then come back up a few days later. Probably just Yahoo reseting it's links to keep them accurate. In a few days your number will likely go back up again.
I mention that because ive seen you mention that custom top 8 in a few threads but its hardly a good keyword. I have a site ranking for a very competitive keyword and a whole load of others based pretty much 95% on sitewides, they are not worthless.
Alright, so they are not really 'worthless', just worth less, right? A lot of Worth Less would be worth something, no?
