Content Duplication

    I have a question about duplication.

    It is pretty usual when trying to optimize a page, modifying the title or the URL names of your page for a more refined optimization.

    As a result you may end up having indexed two pages with a similar content but different urls or titles.

    I guess there a duplication issue here, but frankly, I ignore the way to get around this.

    How would you approach this problem?

    Thank you

    I'd either re-write the content on one of the pages to go after 2nd and 3rd tier keywords OR do a NoIndex on one of the pages and put a link on that page to the better content page.

    You can place the noindex code in your in your HTML header along with all the other Meta tags.

    Some examples:
    <meta name="robots" content="index,follow">
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow">
    <meta name="robots" content="index,nofollow">
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow">

    Why do you have two pages to improve URLs? If you are using straight html there is never a reason to use multiple URLs...at least none that I can think of.

    With php, rewrite the URLs with mod_rewrite. Let me know if you need any one on one help.

    I am not using 2 url to improve. I want to use just one, the other is an old version but also indexed.

    Then rewrite the whole page is your only choice now if you want the older page to get indexed too.

    Sorry for insisting, I am not interested in the old page, if I could remove it I´d do it.

    I´ll try anyway the solutions suggested in the above posts: placing a no index code on the non wanted page.

    The correct way to do this is to use a 301 Re-Direct in your .htaccess file to tell the Search Engines the page has moved permanently if you have modified your URL.

    This will ensure all value, links and PR going to the old URL is attributed to the new URL.

    If you only change the page Title, no need to do anything just wait until it's re-cached.
