Bill Gates dying? I wouldn't be to sure about it... I hear last version of Windows will hold his soul so he can continue to exist in all of our PCs. :D

Many Doomsday "forum prophets" have been saying Dmoz's end is near for over 5+years now. That is a long time in "internet years". Can you give a specific day?

Oh its coming, more people are forgetting about directories, only those with money now get listed in dmoz, so only they will remember about dmoz. Not the rest of the webmasters ! :p

Just look at the 1 year trend : http://alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=dmoz.org

ROFL. Windtalker is wrong, they haven't predicted our demise for 5 years... more like 9.

Way I see it if someone does it every day eventually one of 'em has gotta be right. Nothing lasts forever. I'm buying squares on the bet myself, but to be safe I'm just throwing a dart at the calender. I've got June 27 2010. Wish me luck. :)

Started editing there within about a year of it's startup, and those that edit there tend to feel a bit of ownership, which seems fair since we're also the guys that get blame from those who aren't fond of the directory. So "ours" includes a lot of folks... some that still contribute, some that don't anymore but made contributions once and still feel a certain kinship.

Don't think the alexa argument is likely to sway anyone that realizes the data is mostly used downstream rather than onsite, but go for it if it makes ya happy.

New blog post just went up, so if you don't get over there to read it this thread's gonna be past its freshness date. Here's the URL. http://blog.dmoz.org/2007/10/08/why-hasnt-my-site-been-accepted-into-dmoz/

And do you know how heart broken you might end up, just because you stepped on some evil metas toes and you get kicked out , even though you have had this "ours" feeling for long ? *cough did not want to bring her up but remember Annie ? Her passion and love for dmoz everyone knows about, and this is how dmoz repaid her after been affected by "cancer" , calling her corrupt ?Sheesh pathetic SOB's , Is this the family or kinship one would want to associate themselves with ? Do you feel like you want to be part of that kinship Rob after her removal ? Few editors like skunky and others quit cause they realized this kinship is nothing but a bomb thats about to explode.

Damn why did you post that link, I will be forced to blog about it , and it wont be pretty as usual, cause pretty and unhonest things i cannot write !!

It had the potential to be a tremendous resource, but bad management and arrogance from some of the editors (NOT all) has let it down. The Alexa freefall says it all.

My eyes kinda glaze over when the first sentence contains the "evil meta" stuff. There are a few I consider great, there are a few I consider a PITA, but none I suspect are "evil". That's too black helicopter and tinfoil hat for me to follow.

The scriptlance stuff we've addressed in here already, so I won't rehash it in total. About the only thing that's pretty sure is nobody's getting listed that way, or at least not for longer than a couple of days and then banned. Bribes are a dead end method.

Then again, you don't have to take my word for anything and undoubtedly won't, so mostly I'm not trying to change your mind, just addressing it for anyone reading that'd otherwise be misled.

No sir, i respect everyones opinion even at times they can be low , but thats called a personal viewpoint, i cannot change that either. With time only things change, maybe who knows if i see solid proof and posts/comments all over the world stop about corruption at dmoz, my mind actually change. From my experience at dmoz as editor (short lived 2days only) i feel that its more about personal interests at Dmoz rather than "overall dmoz welfare" and its dirty politics that i would say again "evil metas" are involved with and their sucking fans support them till the end.
I hope Gworld does not start with his proof's posting, about the sucking that takes place internally , cause I will die roflmao.

Oh sorry i was only able to meet crowbar ( i think the biggest suckup at dmoz) and few other nice editors only , i doubt i met with you there though. But we can always meet on yahoo or msn if you wish. And i do not know if you do suckups or not, never heard anything about you from anyone , first time i heard about your name here today. sorry if that makes you feel left out or something, but hey no one heard about my dmoz editor id so there that should make you feel better.

Pssh.. how much to list yahoo on dmoz ? :D

You mean you tried to make excuses which was laughable to anyone with hint of intelligence but in DMOZ, intelligence is not required, only blind obedience. :D
