So... how many wimpy vegetarians are on DP? I'm guessing this might just end up being an empty thread - so any passionate carnivores please chime in too
We- my husband, son and myself) are almost vegetarian. We do eat a little seafood, and my son and I very occasionally meat if we go to something that's serving it (not my husband though, he only eats seafood and vegetarian). My sister is exclusively vegetarian... she even doesn't buy leather things and the like.
Well, I should weigh in...Been vegan for years. It's easy, and I don't miss meat. You can get nearly every kind of meat and dairy in vegetarian form, and pretty much lose the taste for it. Animal slavery is bad for everyone involved-the animals, the consumers, and the environment. Livestock plagues will soon make everyone vegetarian anyway. here's my Squidoo lens on the subject. www.squidoo.com/conscioushealth
Im a vegetarian and don't care about meat since ive never tasted it. There are certain long term benefits of eating veggies and such only. If you have heard of the 10% rule you'd know what im talking about. If you haven't then here is a little brief of it: There are food energy levels (like a pyramid). Between each level only 10% of the energy from the below level remains. The level with the most energy is the producer group or plants. The second highest energy level is the primary consumers or herbivores or vegetarians. The third highest is the omnivore group. This basically means that vegetarians get more energy out of the foods they eat than do carnivores
I am totally anything BUT vegetarian. However, I love Lebanese food, which a lot of it is veggies. Not that that has anything to do with being a vegetarian, but whatever.
Sorry for bumping this old thread. But one small question. What's the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. I don't eat any animals' (meat) except eggs. Am I considered as a vegetarian?
As far as I know, a vegetarian is someone who doesn't eat meat, but a vegan is morally apposed to killing animals. So they won't eat meat, buy fur, use certain soaps, and so on. And, just for the record, this is just what I think, I may be wrong.
