Propaganda [from modern Latin: 'propaganda', literally "propagating"] is a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of large numbers of people. Instead of impartially providing information, propaganda in its most basic sense presents information in order to influence its audience. The most effective propaganda is often completely truthful, but some propaganda presents facts selectively to encourage a particular synthesis, or gives loaded messages in order to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the cognitive narrative of the subject in the target audience. Propaganda is the deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the propagandist. – Garth S. Jowett and Victoria O'Donnell, Propaganda And Persuasion Its the same stuff guys and girls, just repackaged, again, leave them to it.
This is good one! This guy needs to take a step by step course to learn the true meaning of the word unbiased. Then I will have some respect for him BTW: Hey an0n, I always wonder why are you wearing other man' girlfriend's panties? Is there any identity issues going on that we don know about you. .
The article is generally very negative about directories, you have to read between the lines and take a step back at the words used to describe directories in general in order to see that.
I already know about the article. I did NOT answer to the authors original email. I don't even know what the questions were/are suppose to be. Rand is nothing more than a crybaby hypocrite, and probably losing a lot of money, because 'directories do it better'! and nobody needs his 'expert seo services' pfffft... Keep at your directories and stay focused on whatever it is you are trying to make of it. Ignore the idiocy that runs constantly and consistently through DP these days. I am going to dinner tonight with my better half I hope everyone else enjoys their Saturday evening as much as I am going to be. tc and ttyl Rob
I just wrote a post about a portion of this article on my directories blog, basically my thoughts are that google wants people to use Adwords to get top rankings and search engine exposure. If they really have a problem with the quality of the sites that directories are letting in then they should be deleting those sites from their index in the first-place, because then they would not have to worry about them manipulating themselves to the top. And I bet all those low quality, spammy sites would be able to buy adword campaigns, right?
Red: "Keep it on topic, or don't post. " perhaps it should be "Keep it constructive, or don't post. " why cant people have guts enough to sign a red! i have 2 suspects! will PM them tomorrow, right now am off to bed! M.
Hello... heheheh gotta love that sig.. Haters gonna hate and players gonna play. Which are you? Enjoy the video ... it came from a.... "Directory" As my man Kimbo said... It dont stop it never stops Keep with your projects as quality directories will always be around and only get better and stronger with time thx malcolm
yes, i agree that the article is less than objective in my opinion and is out to sensationalize things. It also seems that the reporter did not attempt at all to research on the 'other side' of the story. All he says is what ppl like Rand has been talking about. I'm not surprised that he is already biased when he started researching for this article. Also, what he says about directories that are nothing but link farms is obvious rubbish. He made no attempt to extrapolate to directories like Yahoo and conveniently ignores these loopholes in the theory proposed. dtto, what i'm doing exactly
I think if anything this article lets others know the real issues at hand about how google is starting to step a little over the border line of trying to control the web. Although directories were mentioned in this article a large portion was also pointed at blog sites which sell links embedded in the content. Therefore I can not say that this article paints a negative picture towards directories. But I can agree with this: & I'll also say this, as a directory owner I could really care less what google does with their algo or pr since more than 50% of my traffic comes from referring sites. I'll never stop buying links because that is what helps my business grow. I don't have time to worry about what google is doing because it takes the focus off of the goals I have set in mind. I'll play by googles guidelines, at the same time I'm not going to cut my business short in the process.
I am not sure what were his questions to the directory owners he contacted but obviously he wanted to get the other side of the story but the directory owners ignored him, go figure why.
well, even if no one responded, it is not an excuse to simply publish a one-sided story. It is as good as saying, 'since i don't have all the info, I'll just say what I heard and don't care about the whole picture' besides, attempting to contact other owners gives no indication he is trying to get the other side of the story. The least he could do is acknowledge the fact that directories are recognized and play a part on the internet.
