MSN has done a big update (graph). MSN/Live referrals have dropped huge for me, 85%-95% decrease for a lot of my sites. This took place from 10/1-10/2. So MSN has done a huge update - what factors did they de-emphasize? What factors are now a lot more important? Has anyone noticed any patterns?
I have had some weird stuff happening with msn also started a thread about it http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=494996
The pages are still indexed, not sure if it's less pages than before or not. Don't think that's the issue though. Seems to be a ranking algo change rather than a spidering/deindexing issue. Has anybody managed to do any analysis on what types of sites are ranking better as opposed to worse with the new algo?
I have noticed an increase in ranking on a few keywords on MSN this week and others have dropped some. I am not sure why.
I had a huge boost on lots of keywords this week. It is quite funny, some are very inrelevant but i got more traffic from them than from my best keywords in google I don't know how their algo works but imo its shit. Some of the Keywords have nothing to do with my site, so users won't be happy with the result. But I also noticed that my site is finally indexed in MSN/Live.
I've only received 200 visits from MSN search in the last month, so nothing special there. Although the last day I got 18 visits from them, rather than the average of 3-10
In my AWStats, Live.com (MSN) shows in referring search engines for dozens of generic words like search, estate, etc. But somehow this is their bot passing referrer info that is logged because these are not real visitors. If someone knows more about this, please let me know. It is frustrating because it makes it very difficult to gauge what people are really typing into the search engine to find my sites.
Yes there was a big algo update the beginning of this month. Prior to the change I was ranked #1 and #2 for my term, now nowhere to be seen. I don't think MSN likes new domains or new links anymore...
My SERPs in Microsoft are like the SERPs I had in Google about a month ago. My sites fell considerably. I think age of the websites are now playing a key role in Microsoft's SERPs. Domain name, keyword density(content) and age are more important than ever in Live.
i guess more and more search engine will use almost the same algorithm. result from different search engines will become more and more alike.
I don't think age is as important as you wrote. I have had well ranked site in msn (now i can't find it) and now i can see one of subpages in top20 there (only few backlinks)... I think msn couns now only very old, static links and ranks only sites with low link growth (anti spam?)
I can't figure out what happened. I was getting 1000+/day from MSN over many keywords for one of my sites. Since the algo change its dropped to under 50. What's interesting though is that prior to the change MSN listed Wikiepdia #1 and me #2 for my main keyword. After the change I'm still directly behind wikipedia ... however now we're both on page 3.
I no longer can found my pages in MSN, it used to be the whole site now I only have 1 page indexed in their database
I dont believe for my new Personal Blog for which i didn't seriously optimize for the SE also but then also I got some traffic from LIVE search How is this possible ??? It is just some days old site say 10 days.. & also got some 3-4 uniques from Google too & some 20 uniques from LIVE for just 2 & now 3 posts.. what is the thing which got me on results I don't know.. I would really like to know so that i can concentrate on it & improve more...
