    I think that all links are good and contribute some. The question is how much do they contribute? My belief is that you should just have good content. Time would be better spent there since people will link to you if you do so.

    Depends on what you do and whether there is a community serving the niche you belong to. The free diectories still work. Just the way they always have and always will. That is until Google decides its going to change course which it might well have to do at some stage. So yes its good to have a few other cards in your pack.

    If ones looking at this from a cost benefit basis, why start from the highest to the lowest? What is the "value" of submitting to a Paid directory? What's the difference between one directory and another? Are annual charges sustainable? There are a lot of contradictions in the article but isn't that the nature of our business and the challege that faces us?
