A tip for those listed in Yahoo Directory

I've been in YD for about 5 months, and just noticed that I've been listed on a page that only has a PR of 2  To me, this is a complete waste of the money it costs to get listed. I found another category that was very relevant to my site, which was PR5, and got my link moved there instead.

Although it's very basic advice, check the PR of the exact category you choose, before you request it - and look for any others that might be just as fitting for your site. Then, go for the one with the highest page rank.

Can they put you into a category you did not choose? Don't you have the right to ask for a refund?

ive been debating whether to list my sites in YD ...

are you doing it primarily for the PR / link authority

or do you see a stream of visitors coming from their directory?

yes, they can - but only if you put your link into a category they didn't agree with. It happened when I submitted my company's (full time job) URL. Yahoo didnt agree with the category I put it in, and moved it. You can request a category change, but it gets put on the back burner and they'll get around to it at some point (in other words, don't hold your breath). There are no refunds as this is a "high risk" submission..you might not even get listed at all, yet you still have to pay $300 because of the checkbox you're obliged to click before submitting the order.

s&ptrader: never, if I get 1-2 hits per week, that would be considered normal. It's mostly for being listed on a strong/trusted directory page.

If you are going to buy links at all I would start here.

    authority, hands down...

yes, but this is going to depend on the niche.

Also don't forget you'll be listed in sg.dir.yahoo.com, ca.dir.yahoo.com au.dir.yahoo.com etc. you'll be getting much more than one link. Might be worth checking your pr on those pages before changing.

Excellent idea. I was upset that Yahoo listed my site on a PR2 page when I wanted a PR5 page. I'll see if I can change the page I'm listed on.

Is the $299 a one-time-fee or the annual fee?
