So religious leaders haven't also been guilty of mass murder? Many have killed because of their religious beliefs.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with the song tangent, but I know of plenty of good songs written by atheists. Maybe you just like religious music, so in your opinion the only good music is that written by theists.

I am thinking you should read a History book. Look for the section on the Enlightenment. It was the age of reason versus the age when the Church controlled everything by threats. Which would you rather live in? A state of fear or a state where you can think for yourself?

There are as many bad religious leaders of other religions as there are anesthetist leaders. The religion does not make the person, they often use that religion to instill fear of others. This can be done in any religion.

Allow me to disagree. I think the second biggest event in the world after the Resurrection was the Reformation that was started by a Christian dude named Martin Luther. Again it was a Christian that brought freedom.

    LOL are you serious?
So to reform the religion itself, this is 'religion' is the 2nd biggest event in the world?

Without the relgion in the first place it would not have been needed, without the corruption and false doctrines it would not have been needed.

A Christian that brought freedom from what exactly? The corrupt religion itself ;)

Of course, Martin Luther's work was so anti-semitic that it was later revived by the nazis for the purpose of showing a religious base to their beliefs.
Oh yes, he was also responsible(in his own time) for forcibly removing the jews from a number of cities that were previously the only places they could reside.

Dude, when you compare catholicism with Christianity you will see a LOT of discrepancies. Like I said, it was Martin Luther ( a Christian)that started the Reformation, the single most important event in the history of man kind after the Resurrection.

In your 'religious' view perhaps it is, not in any logical view..

Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Anti Judaism and anti semitism are 2 totally different things. Martin Luther was Anti Judaism which means that from a theological point of view he did not agree with the Judaic way of worshipping God. That about sums it up. But of course you will scorn and say that he was an anti semite, even though you probably still don't know what the real difference is.

Alright bud, let's have some fun with this.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther#Luther_and_antisemitism
And before you mention "OMGZ it's Wikipedia it's unreliable!!!", I will point out there's 26 different citations in that section alone. And yes, they are quality sources. By the way, I'm agnostic, and have no jewish blood in me, and hold nothing against Christianity. So I don't have a ridiculous bias here, I'm just saying it how it is.

Most important event in the history of man kind?
Perhaps, for you Man Kind is limited to Christianity only?
Honestly do you think Atheism is equal to Communism? If you think so, then buddy, no offense, but you ought to read about Atheism as well as Communism more.

Atheism is not communism and vice versa. Communism is a political notation, while Atheism is a religious notation...

Wrong. That's called tyranny, and it can be found in people of every religion under the sun. You can have a crazy, dictator atheist just like you can have a crazy dictator Christian. Usually atheists are more prone to follow the laws of man, in which case they would try to remove religious influence and partiality from the decisions of government, which I agree with. Please note that just because you want to justify your opinion based on your religion doesn't make it any more or less valid. We are all in the same boat here.

How about indoctrinating people about creationism in the name of science? Evolution was taught in my 9th grade biology course without issue, and it's rooted in science. You are free to not believe it if you wish, but to not educate students about it is an injustice to their learning. We learned about a vast number of scientific theories in high school, talked about things like Einstein's theory of relativity, talked about string theory and how it's gained popularity of recent years, talked about old theories like heliocentrism and a flat earth. To not discuss past and present scientific theories in a science class is a lot closer to indoctrination than teaching evolution.

Not sure what you're talking about here.

All other parties being? Again, you've lined up atheism too much with communism, and they are not one and the same. Tyrants eliminate all other parties, atheists have no single political party and again, if they stick to the Constitution, probably encourage something MORE than our silly duopoly.

A Constitutional society would be a more tolerable one. Personally, I'm much more tolerable of other religions than a lot of religious followers I've met in my life. I have had civil debates with a number of friends on the topic of religion: at the end of the day, we agree to disagree and move on with our lives.

My personal beliefs don't necessarily apply to ever atheist in existence, but at the same point most of us don't have some book of supposed absolute truth commanding us that said religion is the only proper way to live, and that all non-believers are doomed. We believe that religion isn't needed, see no evidence for the existence of a God, but realize that others have different values and beliefs. So which one exactly do you think is more tolerable?

This also reminds me of another common stereotype of atheists, as arrogant. We say "sorry man, I think you're wrong on religion, I don't believe there is a God". You say "sorry man, I think you're wrong on atheism, my holy book tells me there is a God and you must repent and accept Jesus or be doomed to eternal damnation." We both are expressing our beliefs, and how our beliefs conflict with another person's beliefs, henceforth making said person wrong on the issue.

You think I'm arrogant because I'm telling you what I think on an issue. Are you any less arrogant just because you believe it because a book told you so? Does that forgive you of arrogance because you think you are right? No, it does not. Rude people are on both sides of the fence and their justifications for their beliefs are not seen as valid by the side they are arguing with, and so neither is any more or less "right", it just comes down to the particular individual and if he is rude or not.

So you talk about atheism and communism and people say they are different...because they are. How about you establish how they are one and the same first?

Not to say all, but I bet you could find some right here in this thread (I haven't read it all)...from what I've seen here, they usually offer unconditional contempt for Christians and Jews, and tolerance and defense of other religions whose ideology includes killing Christians and Jews.

Or maybe you're just paranoid ;)

Trust GTech to try and turn another debate into a Christain Vs Muslim arguement.

If you feel anyone in the thread (that you admit you haven't read) has displayed any contempt to Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, or indeed any religion then you're welcome to point it out. Until then I suggest you STFU ;)

I'm an agnostic, I have no respect for religion as such, but I understand why religion was formed and I have respect in the fact that every human being is allowed to live up to his faith.
