On my way in my front door today i almost stepped on this freaky little thing Any one know what it is? :s I'm guessing its some kinda caterpillar but it looks wicked.. little spike on his rear and some dodgy looking legs holding is head off the floor Picture from my phone so quality aint all that special. sorry if this is not suitable for this forum! just thought i would share it.. Would be great if some one knew which specific thing it was!
Wow, that's huge! I have no idea what it is.. probably some sort of caterpillar or a really big canker worm !
Yeh..lol its popper weird looking thing, been looking on google for it to find out what it was - cant find anything
Its a caterpillar for a species of Swallowtail butterflies http://www.flickr.com/photos/52904861@N00/201953971/ Geez, I can't believe I know the answer to this . . . I'm such a geek
Hey loganet, you are not a geek..lol I am so happy to know what this is, been searching google for it for ages now! Thanx alot.
noo i would'nt kill it mate, neither did i feed it as that would of killed it ( missus is a horrible cook) I just moved it on to a grass area with lots of flowers so it could help its self.
I don't see the resemblance between the OP's picture, and the one's in the link loganet provided. Are you sure that's what it is?
Yeh, i googled it its of the same species There are many many different versions of it. see Here This is from the bbc website, same thing just a little lighter in colour. thats its face, if u look below the image on the site and click number 15 u will see it stretched out.
hmmm. . . saw it on a wildlife TV show a while back? That's why I was surprised that I knew what it was. I've never seen anything like it, alive. It could be a hawk moth caterpillar, too: http://www.kendall-bioresearch.co.uk/moth1.htm I swear, those two are the same kind of caterpillars. Or maybe one of the sites is using the wrong pics?
Don't mention it, my dear. Its simply another crisis averted by Super Random Useless Fact Man!!! Your gratitude is unecessary! It has been my privilege and honor to serve the greater DP community. Now, I can change back to my alter ego . . . .
