I was just curious how old can a thread be before you can stop posting in it . Is there a specific time frame ? Example- thread is 2 months old so posts are no longer allowed . Or is it just the judgment of the administrator or moderator ?
I don't think there are any rules about that, It's just good to use your own judgment and don't bump old threads, sometimes it annoys people.
That's what I want to know . How old is too old ? Is it just some rule of thumb or up to the mods what is too old. If there were specific guidelines on this it would be much easier .
Especially if they're in the general chat sections (something pointless) If it's a really old and informative thread, I can't see why not (if it's still active). It should really depend on the activity of the thread rather than age (as we have a couple of very active threads that are really old!)
It depends what the nature of the thread is. The Demonoid topic was started in July and it currently posted in today.
Let me ask you this then . If I were to do a search of threads in the buy sell and trade section for one specific topic and post in each thread no matter how old it was could I get an infraction for bumping a thread ?
Ya bumping old threads, use your own judgment...I noticed someone bumped a thread that was 3 years old. To congrat him on his earnings and of course a other people didin't look at the thread date and replyed it making it 2 pages longer... That is funny, Guys check the thread dates!
Catch 22! If you have something to share, or want to discuss something already brought up, then you should search. Making a duplicate thread is grounds for an infraction. If you do search though and bump an old thread you can likely expect the member base to get upset and likely get a few red reps. This is a lose/lose situation for the poster. Use your best judgement, and make sure your "bump" brings something to the discussion. Simply posting "I agree" is bad form on many levels...but if your give something worth reading then you'll likely be OK...even if the thread is a year old (though, the older the thread, the better the post should be).
I have received 3 infractions since joining DP . One was for boosting my post count which I was doing and the other was for an inappropriate post in a thread. I understood why I got these and took the warning from the mod to knock it off. I also received one for bumping a thread this was the one I was unsure about though.
As others have said there is no rule set in stone. Some general information type threads retain value regardless of age. Objects for sale in 2004, are probably no longer for sale currently. When in doubt send a PM to OP rather than bumping an old sales thread.
Oh ok Thanks. I was getting scared of getting banned because I have 2 infractions and I thought it was 3 when you got banned. Silly me
Ten infraction points = ban, not necessarily ten infractions. Duplicate account = ten point infraction Spamming = 5 point infraction Attacking and harassing others = 2 point infractions. The rest of the infractions carry a one point penalty.
Still, be careful: these can be racked up easily! And they don't all expire at the same time.. so look out for those infractions that have a duration of 3 months
i laughed when i saw this thread appear after 230 days this morning http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=246527 but hey the guy who posted had worked his way through the entire thread and added everyone on the list so added him to my network good on him i say , he didnt just post some crap reply he did exactly what was asked in the op's original post
I think a lot of people don't even pay attention to the start date of thread. They just see a subject that they have an interest in and post a response .
