For a long time I had to get something off my chest. I think designers have a problem with respecting time, there problem is that they can never deliver on time! I really had some experiences with Designers. About 12 months ago, there was a guy who knew my father approached me and asked if I can build him a website. Ofcourse he was he's rich. I thought let's make some easy money off him. So I thought to myself, let me find a designer, and he will build him the site for him. So anyway there was this Designer, Until now I feel like killing. He came to me, and showed me his portfolio. His stuff was really great, and I was really Impressed. Anyway I paid him half upfront to start the project, and he said he will show me the first draft of the design in a week. Ofcourse the money that I paid him upfront was the money I took from the rich guy I was building the site for. So I thought everything is going to work out, I put the money on the side for the designing costs. And the rest I went out with my friends and we had a really really big party. IT was about $2000.00 I took from the rich guy to build the site. So after spending the money wisely partying, and leaving a bit on the side to pay the designer..... a week passed by. Calling.. Calling.. Calling... the phone is close! For a whole week the phone is closed, so now I was getting really angry. So what do I do now? I don't even have enough money to get another designer! So I kept prolonging the customer for months, until I made a really stupid story... And paid back the money. So this is why I really hate DESIGNERS!!! P.S The Designer called me after 2 months and said he was sorry he didn't deliver because he got married!!! (What a stupid excuse)
Who is going to do your graphics work now kingofkings Better yet: What do you think about those designers who charge a lot and take 15 minutes to complete the project?
I'm going to learn how to graphics myself, or either get a slave and teach him how to design!! About your better yet question, I think designers sometimes rob the customer. Take advantage of him, because he doesn't have an Idea what's going on. I bet your one of them.
That's good, it's always best to learn how to do things yourself. Don't you believe in paying for skills? Like paying doctors top $$ because of their knowledge?
yep.. freelancers always tend to put things off. That's why I never pay anything before! Only after all the work is done. 8, divide and conquer (outsource?).. you cant do everything yourself ~MG
Well there is a big difference, Doctors save people's lives. What do you do rearrange some pictures. LOL
Nah all I got was I got married call, and then he disspeared! I was more worried about paying back the customer who was my dad's friend. Well nobody here on DP works and then get paid... Come on where do you live?
Lol true (and I'm a designer) , it should be 50% upfront.. and you must trust the person too. Kingofkings: it's more than that I'm sure you can't design every single possible thing.. it takes talent and skill too.
Trust or not trust, when the designer says he/she needs more time.. There is nothing you can do. Especially when you designers tempt the customer with your portfolios! Ok I don't think there is alot of talent required, do you want to talk about real talent? Do draw any of your work with a Digitizer?
honestly you are to blame you shouldn't have spent the clients money until the project was complete you blew his money on partying before the work was done, no sympathy for you
Talent or skills, for example: if I told you to design something similar to everything in this portfolio: http://www.designshack.co.uk/ or all of the logos from logopond.com Could you do it?
Come on man, now it's my fault! It doesn't matter if I spent the money or not... I'm talking about the point. The point that Designers have no respect to time, and have no respect in honoring deals. Ya but I can learn, big deal.. do you really think you have something special in you.. like some awesome talent! I think anybody can learn how to be a designer!. Plus why didn't you answer my question. Do you know how to draw with a digitizer?
What goes around comes around. You are trying to rip some guy off, now you got ripped off. Sounds fair to me.
neither do you , you blew the money, if you had known what you are doing you could quickly just hire another designer
