ONE of the many sources of high medical costs in the United States is the de facto monopoly of the American Medical Association in the distribution of licences to practice medicine.

It's all about the law of supply and demand.

Why to American medical students need to study medicine in places like Mexico and why does the US need foreign doctors.

    Physicians in the USA: 794,893.
Foreign graduate doctors in the USA: 185,234 (from 127 countries).

The US has opened almost no new medical schools in the past 25 years. So you have a physician population that has remained flat serving a U.S. population that is expected to grow by 25% between 2000 and 2025.

Yeah it was a bad bill with hidden far left agenda in it just like all the bills the conservatives try to pass with hidden agendas and corporate pocket fattening earmarks.

Calling it a bill for children then allowing grown rusty ass college graduate 25 year olds to benefit from it is absurd....

I agree with Grim, non proof of US citizenship is a deal breaker for me. It's just stupid!! We'll have everyone and their momma bringing their kids here for free care on our dime.

This could have been a great step towards socialized medicine and they completely fucked it up..

I am for socialized medicine if it means that any US citizen can walk into a health care facility and get the best of care without having to worry about these crook ass insurance companies not paying for it.

Did you catch the bolded "US citizen" part? Good :)

I don't think many people are informed about socialized medicine. It sounds great in theory, but in practice, another story. Lots of flaws in the Canadian system, like 6 month to a year waits to get to see a specialist, regardless of your means to pay for faster service.

Socialism doesn't work people. You dumb down excellence, and remove the incentive to work hard (by fixing fees, creating artificial limits) or innovate (no profit incentive for R&D). As soon as there is a shortage of medical practitioners or an epidemic, the system collapses on itself. The people who want to bring you socialized medicine (Big Government) are the same morons who didn't stop 9/11, blew it in New Orleans, and run the Department of Education. Now people want to turn their health over to them?

Glad he did it...this was just a precursor to what Hillary Clinton wants to do...did anyone hear shrillary's plan to just give $5000 to every kid born in the US so they could save it for college? Will someone please tell me exactly how we are going to make sure that the parents invest it rather than spend it? Furthermore, if thats the case, my wife and I are going to get busier...we just had 1, but 9 more ought to do it to pay for my new corvette.

Not to be a racist...but I find this interesting that she said it to the Congressional Black Caucus.

While I am at it...take a look at this quote from the same article:

If we followed through on this, every child would owe $32,000 on the national debt...so in other words, they owe money, we don't have enough to pay, hell, lets just give them more! And we wonder why the dollar keeps going down???

About the only good thing our leader did in many years in the office. But then, it's all part of the plan. If "Republicans" don't play anti-peace protester and anti-socialist at the same time, sheeple won't elect Hitlery

Watch for the dems to now do a smear campaign against Bush. It will go something like this: "We are trying to help the children. Bush doesn't care about the children. We had a bill that passed and he vetoed it. He does not want your children to be taken care of." My name is Shrillary Clinton and I approve this message.

Sorry but that just screams to be disproven or at the very least it may have been taken out of context. Like it might have happened to a small number of people but cmon, everyone?? The way you wrote it it's like you want people to believe that everyone will have to wait 6 months to a year to see a specialist.... I'm just saying think about what you say before you say it because dude.. that doesn't even make sense... If that were true the people would be in an uproar.

Thanks for the link! She scares me the more and more I hear her flap those gums of hers.
Another program that sure sounds nice and will get the poor to jump up and down, middle class, etc as it 'sounds nice' but yet another program that would cost so much and be abused so bad it's a disaster waiting to happen.

Not racist at all, I totally get where you're coming from on it. She was trying to play to the audience IMHO.

Yeah makes alot of sense, owe money anyways might as well keep owing more. That logic gets alot of people into debt, 'well honey we owe $45,000.00 on credit card bills already, what's another $15,000.00 for that new boat?'

BTW don't all children in some way get $$$ for college as colleges/schools already get huge amounts of tax $$$. But here she flips it into directly into the childs name for a more personal touch, how touching 'gag'

Sad but true. Both sides do it though. If only people took the time to know more about a bill than the name, such as this one, the patriot act, no child left behind just to name a few. If people new the specifics I can guarantee at least some would change their tunes on supporting or not supporting a bill.

Gosh man I'd really take that as a solid point if I didn't know for a FACT that the Republicans would do the precise same thing if it were a Democratic president. Stupid bill or not...

I never said they wouldn't do it...but the dems love to twist the facts to do a smear campaign. Look what they are doing to Rush right now...did you know that the MediaMatters groups was set up and run by Hillary Clinton? And what about the fairness doctrine? I can't wait for that to come back on the table if hillary is coronated.

I am thinking about what I am saying, because I know. I have a family member with a brain injury who spent 6 months in a psychiatric ward because there were no beds for him in a rehab facility. Instead of helping him relearn to walk, hold a spoon etc., they doped the hell out of him, put him in a diaper and strapped him to a bed. That's socialized medicine pal.

And lorien's quote about the 3 hour wait for the few minutes of facetime is totally true. That's socialized medicine. It's free, so everyone abuses the system, until it doesn't work for anyone.

    Thank you.

The big thing about it is that if you don't participate in this 'voluntary' insurance program, you won't be able to apply for a job, and, down the road, do other things. Not mentioning that non-participants will be charged higher income tax. It's only 'voluntary' on paper. Forced helth insurance at it's best.

You are mixing 2 different questions and draw the wrong conclusion. Ask yourself this, is the incompetence in this area, any different that incompetence in INS, police, state department or post office. According to you, we should not have INS or post office either. The mismanagement in government section has nothing to do with if we as society should guarantee medical care for anyone who is sick. Hopefully we have evolved as a society to the extend that we do not accept that poor and unfortunate deserve to die because they don't have money. Once we accept this principal that EVERYONE deserves medical care, then we can discuss how is the most efficient way to implement and manage it. :)
