How do you find new music?

Just curious: how do you find new music?

Here are my methods:
- From friends
- From my favorite music blogs
- From googling up similar artists to the ones I love
- Random shows

Any other ways?

 

www.last.fm - really good site for new music.

 

I use last site to find similar artists it is a good resource! Woxy.com is good too (for discovering indie artists)

 

i use gothmetal. net and if i like the song i buy it

 

There is a radio station in England known as Radio 1, they usually play new and upcoming music, so I find out about new music off their.

 

What type of new music do they play there? I avoid the radio here 'cause of the garbage they play

Rock/Indie, Dance, Hip-Hop/RnB and sometimes put a few oldies on

 

Rock/indie and oldies are good atleast it's not 100% hiphop/rnb and POP

 

Most of the stuff I listen to comes out on vinyl. Friends are vinyl junkies so it works out well...

 

Vinyls look cool! I wish people would use them more often, they even have current artists (like Coldplay) on vinyl

I don't have decks so don't get vinyl. Just listen to new stuff from friends You listen to Electro? Have you heard of beatport.com ?

 

I do listen to electro (indie stuff.. like Hot Chip, Tiga, She Wants Revenge, etc) not techno

most new bands and albums i get from www.blabbermouth.net through cd reviews and that kind of stuff.

I think last.fm is the best resource to find similar artists

 

A very good site. I've been using them since the site was called AudioScrobbler. By connecting one artist to similar artists, you'll find a never-ending supply of new music to listen to.

 

What is the URL to this site? Is it flash based? Where you click and hear audio samples? (I might have been there before )

 

Spin magazine and allmusic.com are nice. Also wikipedia

 

In all honesty I try and pick up stuff I've either lost or never got my hands on when I was younger... there's so much "old" music that it's all new to me

The good thing about older music is that it tends to be cheaper on eBay and Amazon marketplace and I'm still a vinyl/CD junkie, although I did use to check out Epitonic for samples, browse lastfm as mentioned earlier here, check out who was in what bands in wikipedia and just buy stuff on a whim by following their "rock family tree"

A few years back playing the snowboarding game "Amped" on the Xbox introduced a ton of new bands form their jukebox, although it's a shame Frank Jordan don't seem to be around anymore...

 

I have to agree with you on "old music" being new. I've tried to imply new music as in music we've never heard before.

There are tons of artists to discover out there!
