If the website is 100% Flash does that hurt its search engine rankings for keywords, etc? I have been curious of this for awhile....any thoughts?

if you have just flash, will be hard work and spend more $ to be in top
no text, no quality content.... only buying backlinks for BL`s builder.
in my opinion: NO flash !

Sites are completely in Flash are are *almost* impossible to SEO. The only thing you can do is get quality links into the site with your keywords, and from sites in the topical neighborhood. A big problem with a site that is completely in Flash, is that you can only ever have one unique URL listed in the search engines. If you want to use Flash, I always recommend setting things up so each page has it's own unique URL, and use the Flash as an element (or multiple elements) on that page. Do as much as you can in html. (Use the Flash like you would use images in your layout.) Granted, for sites that are really multimedia driven (music, movies, media, youth-oriented, etc.), it will often require heavy use of Flash, and you have to go with that, but most sites don't need that much.

If you're interested, I've got some more tips for Flash SEO.

    Hope that helps!

[I've SEO'd some very large Flash sites with great success, so PM me if you have more specific questions.]

It's a tough road with flash unless your site depends on it. A flash game site obviously requires flash. Youtube uses flash videos, of course these are surrounded by spiderable content.

Can you use a hybrid of flash and convention html / php?

In my experience, the only sites that really benefit from flash are sites that need to be exceptionally pretty like rock band sites and such.

...unless you are in a micro niche perhaps.

Just the correct title and description is enough.

My sites do not depend on flash, but I just ran across some really nice flash templates. I make mass loads of websites to toss em out online and was considering a flash site for looks. However, SEO is more important to me than looks. Thanks for the answers!

Good backlinks will only help you if you've 100% flash site, IMO.

It depends on how it is done. If it is optimized well SEs will surely recognized it... I have seen many flash sites that are ranking in SERPs...

But with your question 100% flash I think SEs will frowned on it.. It must not be all 100% of flash only some of your pages will do. Link building will help if it is made in that kind of manner. Great Link building ...:p

Flash is very bulky and it requires an SDK from Adobe for you to optimize it.
