looks like your graph is doing better than mine! anyways, am promoting surf sieve badly, hope fully i will enter the 100k pretty soon!
Interesting idea... With their widget on your site they can more accurately measure your traffic. But does this mean if 90% of your visitors are using the toolbar (giving you a great rank!) they can detect this, and bump you back down?
they actually want more people use there toolbars! so they will always be happy anyways, i have tested the widget, and it dosenot makes any difference, the alexa re-direct has some beniefits! but the most improtant thing is the mozila, "search status" plugin, that is used heavily with the firefox browsers!
All I know is that you don't have to be in the top 100,000 to get a graph. My site is in the top 300,000 and I have a traffic graph. I've been following dosh dosh's traffic tips on alexa rank for the past two months and have dropped my rank from over 2 million down to what it is now. I have a blog about web development, so the odds are in my favor, but Dosh Dosh's tips are still great. First thing to do is to install the alexa toolbar on your computer, friend's computers, your parent's computers, public computers, and view your site on them. Just doing this consistently will have a good impact on your alexa rank. Why do you care, BTW? The only reason I care is because this rank figures into how much you can make on some affiliate sites (it Text Link Ads). If there wasn't that, I wouldn't care about this number.
To get an Alexa rank all you have to do is get traffic to your website. So go learn SEO if you don't have a budget to buy traffic through advertising.
alexa depends solely on traffic..for sites like google and yahoo to have that much traffic means that it counts every hit, not just those with the alexa toolbar
Here is a good example of why you guys have sucky Alexa rankings... Dosh doesn't give a hoot about his ranking... He doesn't ask people to reload his webpage and use it as a home page... He isn't a geek. He is a business man with a solid business plan. https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.c...amp;bwmf=u&fr=yfp-t-471&fr2=seo-rd-se Pages (1,153) | Inlinks (252,886) He has written article after article and he targets people with a brain (not just a brain stem). He has a huge number of backlinks. If you quickly skim through them you will notice that he isn't spamming peoples comments for backlinks. He is just writing good and concise content that people are enjoying. So they quote and cite his articles on a daily basis. Like the person did in the quote above this text. THAT is how you get an Alexa ranking of 6,000. Not by reloading a page. Not by comment spamming. Not by scraping other peoples content. You get it by just being you and doing what you do best. Writing about what excites you and hoping others will feel the burn.
Thank you all for your replies but still i didnt know ... must the visitors have alexa toolbar? if they dont have to then how will Alexa know about my visitors??
No, If your traffic grows so does your alexa. As many others have said before the volume of traffic is the key to boosting your alexa. This is any kind of traffic and many use automated traffic bots to boost there alexa, if you are still wantint to boost your alexa you maybe able to find someone offering alexa boosting services in the Buy & Sell part of the forum. Chris
but if it is as you have said (that it doesnt depend on Alexa Toolbar) then how will alexa know about my site if my visitors doesnt have the toolbar or there is no script in my site to report my site stats to Alexa?
Alexa rank is based on the amount traffic from users that have the alexa bar installed on their browser (and only those). So if you have a good alexa rank, it means that either you have a huge amount of visitors accessing your site (among them few or many with alexa bar, you can't tell) or a lot of visitors with alexa bar are coming to your site (niche). But if you don't get a good alexa rank, it doesn't mean that you don't have visitors, simply that the visitors that visit your site do not have the alexa bar installed. They only thing you can say, is that the traffic you get in reallity is much better then what Alexa tells you! Who installs alexa bar anyway? i believe mainly people who have sites and are interested in SEO, seeing an indicator (barely accurate) of the site traffic with an approximative rank. or maybe people who have site and install this just to gain one unique visit of their site every day ... In terms of repartition, we can observe that the sample of people using it doesn't obey to any criteria (age, greographical location, sex, occupation...). To put this in real life terms, it would be comparable as an audit company building their marketing sample with only the people that have red cars. As to an example of Alexa ranking, my site is classified ten times better than my wife's, but receives ten times less visits. Why is that? Hers is in Russian... Seems russians do not care much about alexa toolbar! In my opinion, Alexa should really be taken as an indicator only, that doesn't reflect much in terms of classifications.
Alexa ranking can be easily manipulated though... Look at ours, it went from millions rank to xxx,xxx using a traffic generation method... Honestly, sometimes I disregard Alexa rankings when valuing a site. Just because it doesn't really mean your site is very popular.
