How many backlinks do I need to overtake my competitor to number 1 spot?

 

Well, first of all are you the webmaster of CNN.com or what?

Really, no-one can tell and its not just about number of backlinks. Relevancy and page rank of pages linking to you, quality and quantity of your content, site structure etc.

Overtake your competitor by becoming the #1 authority in your niche.

 

Just number of links doesn't get you placed higher in Google. Google also see how regularly you update you website.. the consistency rate of new page addition. The consistency in the rate of back link buildup, amd many other things.

Just number don't count. Google also sees history. OLD websites, which are updated regularly are preferred

 

No-one can tell, but I think keywords help in terms of SERP.

 

It's not about the quantity of links you need to gain but the quality of each link you need to have. Quality links with good keywords and good content is a way to SERP success.

Use your keywords on your title, in content and in alt tags of images. Use also your targeted keywords as anchor text.

so is it worth getting a backlink from PR0 sites, or just focus on the high PR ones

 

All backlinks counts. Maybe that PR0 will be PR6 next update. All backlinks are a plus.

Besides high PR, you should also focus on highly related ones.

 

PR0 site is ok as long as its related to your site. Even its PR0 it can still helps, actually PR is not so important for me as long as its related because I believe that PR has nothing do with your SERP.

 

Is there anything called PR0?? I think that is a rank for non existing pages, ot pages that have not yet got indexed by search engines.

 

optimize your keywords on your site. Repeat keywords 2 or 3 times. Build up backlinks My site is currently a PR 2 but I am optimizing my site and building up links , I already left my main competition in the dust a long time ago and they are a PR 5.

it definitely depends on the competitors capacity & the quality of backlinks your competitor has and how much competition the keyword has for which u r optimizing your site... try to use SEO tools available on net to determine all these..

I wish the answer were simple but it isn't

 

There is one website that has just over 100 backlinks, and is number 1 on google with a particular keyword phrase. If I generate twice as many backlinks, can I get to number 1 spot you think.

 

If you have more content and resources about the theme of ur site them you will replace the number one spot eventually.......
