I want to move to Istanbul (Constantinople, Byzantium) I heard a lot of good stuff about Istanbul. Fascinating History, the second largest city in Europe (12M-15M inhabitants) booming town, and nice people. Any DP member living there? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul
Istanbul is not secure place to live, too many people, too many problem. Ankara is better than istanbul, but i think best place is Bergen/Norway in the world
I'm no regular on this forum, more of a lurker but I felt I had to comment on this topic... I'm a Turkish citizen living in the USA and will be going to Turkey for 22 days (my flight is tomorrow!) I've been to Istanbul many times and it is indeed a great place to live. I have a house there ; - ) We Turks reinvigorated Constantinople, the Byzantine Empire was weak, defeated, and pretty much history by the time the Turks conquered Constantinople. Because of the Ottomans, Constantinople became the capital of a world power once again, though a world power of a different faith than the previous one. I hope the Turkish Republic has enough sense to restore Istanbul to its rightful place as the capital of Turkey. Sure Ataturk made Ankara the capital, but that was for practical reasons based on the politics of the time (aka Istanbul was occupied by the Allied Powers) Today, theres no reason not to restore Istanbul as the capital!
Constantinople was the capital of the greatest Empire ever existed - the Roman Empire Unfortunately only the East part of it, after the split in 4th century A.D. Not sure about living in Istanbul, but it should be a cool place to visit. ~MG
Istanbul is where i live. A huge city with history of all ages you probably will never find elsewhere. You may want to search for "bosphorus" online, and if you move to Istanbul you can also go to many summer touristic places of the southern Turkey anytime you want, where are half an hour flight away. For casuals you can find anything that you can find in an average European city. If you need to know anything else i can answer.
I'm from Bulgaria (close to Turkey) and I was in Istanmbul this year for the first time. I didn't like it much. Maybe because I live in a small city and I don't like too much people. However, the best is to see it yourself if you like it or not.
I don't think you'd survive in İstanbul with those hatred against Turks in your mind. You made it obvious with the thread you opened just a few hours ago (which got deleted because you were supporting Kurdish terrorists against Turkey's unity) You have never been in İstanbul obviously.
