A blog IS a website. Though some blogs work well for optimization, you can't beat the flexibility of a REAL website when it comes to optimization.

But, like mridout196 said, having actual content that's unique and added to on a regular basis helps you rank well with the search engines.

Agreed - that being said, I think a blog is less forgiving if you are not adding regular content. Blogs are generally easier for beginners though.

Good luck with your online ventures,

I agree, blogs ARE easier for beginners. That's probably why there's been a rush of them lately....

This needs to be taught in schools. It seems as if there has been some degree of transference from media consumed to media produced; garbage-in, garbage-out. Marketing cannot compensate for a poor product. Most people who are thinking about getting into this field should really be asking themselves, "Do I really have something to offer? Is what I am trying to sell worth buying?" 9 times out of 10, if we're being honest with ourselves, the answer is no.

On topic: blogs are certainly easier, but if you have a grasp of design aesthetic, you may want to consider creating your own page.

It doesn't matter whether you use blog or site. Your SERP would depends on how you optimized the site.
