Looking for direction - How to drive more than the 1 million uniques we recieve p/m

Hi. We are looking for input on viable means to drive more USA traffic than the 1 million current uniques per month that our site is receiving..

We'd like to hear methods, suggestions, ideas, and general concept from anyone who has time to respond.

We like to weight with cost vs profit.

 

Well... I believe you could check out some top sites and see what they are doing. Some common factors include:
- appear on TV/newspapers
- Be really rich/famous/successful before you launch a site

Or...
- Have big budget to spend on adwords

 

If you already get a million unique visitors per month - the next step is to leverage your current traffic to generate more traffic for you.

Some ideas:

1. Start a contest. Reward people to promote you.

2. Start an affiliate program if you sell products

3. Enter into link exchange and co-registration programs. Send your visitors to other websites. And in return - get those other websites to send their visitors to you.

4. Get your site visitors to submit your site to various social marketing websites (digg.com, stumbleupon.com etc)

 

Checked out your blog and ur article on creating first impression on the users is a nice one.

 

Oh... I misread the original post. Oh well... I suppose those are good tips.

If you get 1,000,000 uniques a month then I think you should already know a good amount of stuff when it comes to getting traffic. Maybe you could try and make things a little more viral by getting your current visitors to recommend your site to their friends.

 

With all the money you are making from those one million visitors, hire a PR guru.

Contests.. any suggestions

The site is free so selling products isnt super appealing.

link exchanges aren't super appealing as we're more inclined to sell adspace.

refer a friend is something forth coming

Any other suggestions ?..

Where can we find some super high traffic sites who might accept a link from us at a reasonable rate related to entertainment / social / news

Our success has hit us whirlwind almost in the last three months but we definately want to continue the trend.

All posts so far are valuable but we could use more ideas!

How did you get the first 1 million?

That's a lot of money coming in. In addition to massive online advertising, you can't use those $ for ouside advertising, like TV, radio, newspaper ads....?

What site is it?

 

How do you know it's a lot of money coming in Perry Rose? Maybe he/she is good are getting traffic to the site, but has not got a clue about monetizing the site. But truthfully I would doubt that very much.

You're right, John, but if he is indeed getting that many, it's obvious that he is still making quite a bit. That's enough to advertise to a massive audience.

 

Hi everyone. First off I'm a Ms Not a Mr.

Yes we're doing ok monetizing but always room for more improvement (I won't give totals but its a decent figure considering the site itself sells nothing - completely free . Our servers are quite expensive. Almost 1k per month but necessary.
What we're trying to do is figure out the best means to let more people know we exist. Since we're in month 3 only we still have alot of readership to capture In doing so we can keep growing and earn a little more revenues we're hoping.

We've been using the conventional methods outlined above ... Has anyone had any good results with print marketing?

IT seems a tad expensive because since we're only three months old we haven't even seen our checks yet for a return.

We've already put xx,xxx into this.

Are there any DP'ers here who have some very high traffic sites that might be able to help us get our word out? We've bought lots of ads but mostly they're being sold for pr .. We need real exposure more than pr.. We should get pr on all pages of our site on update. I believe the new layout we're coding in tonight / tomorrow will be pretty awesome..

We've yet to determine lol We're open to hearing anything that will help. We've spent ALOT of money.. Return is coming just not during launch. We hope to have a decent budget soon to do some major advertising but we've not sought any seed funding and really feel that would take away from our freedom to adapt / change if need be as well as any income in future. It's kind of nice having a small team with something growing so big. Keeps us down to earth.

one thing got me wondering after looking at your site, there are mostly complaints which is fine, but i also noticed some articles that are positive and thats when I got confused - so does it really matter whether its positive or negative article??

 

That's why we're shifting from just complaints to Articles abroad..
People can say what they'd like good and bad .. Clarifying the system in the process
