Huge jump from Page 1 to page 15 results

Drop from search result #2 to #142

Has anyone else noticed any huge changes lately in SERP? Is it possible it's just a temporary fluctuation due to updates?

It's just a temporary jump. It happened to me twice. I was back again in maximum 2 weeks.

I don't think it is just a small thing anymore. Lots of people have been reporting, although not here, about the latest SERP changes and a lot of people are complaining about the results google show right now.
What type of sites have replace you? Blogs? Classifieds?

yes that happened to one of my clients, but i was able to get his rankings back, we did some aggressive link building, may be if you pm ur url, i can point you in the right direction. there is a lot of reasons why something like this could happen, even the loss of only 1 precious backlink could be the reason..

Although it hasn't happened to any of my sites recently, it has happened. For me, the site was back to where it had been or slightly better within 3 or 4 days each time.

I know it's a frightening thing. But don't worry, at least not yet.

Same jump here, only my site jumped from #1 place into oblivion :)

one of my keywords went from #17 to not even showing up...it's competitive and I'm not even in top 1k currently (I'm pissed and shocked)...and it was on page 2-4 for about 3 weeks...im thinking onsite seo is more important than ever, cause I didn't optimize this page yet. I don't see how one keyword could completely be lost when I specifically went for it with anchor text, yet a similar phrase is doing well that I didn't target..from residual efforts. The subpage still shows up in Google so I don't think it was penalized but rather an Algo change? I don't see how you can explain going from page 2 to not even showing up...i have tons of anchor text for this phrase too. Any guesses?

Google updated every day, the new website contains a need to process. Normal, not to worry

You may have tripped an over-optimization filter

I think being penalized for over optimization is bs...its completely white hat..if my anchor text happens to be relevant to my site I don't see what the big deal is; this is just pure bs

Possible that it is temporary. Watch your keyword and maintain it.

this is normally happening to SERPs. But I hope in my situation it is temporary, I don't want to go farther in SERPs.

Does your site show in Google when you do a search for the first part of you domain. E.g. adobe

yea, I have noticed some strange things like that lately, maybe google is going to unleash something big soon, thus are neglecting existing things slightly

I also think an over-optimisation filter exists and can be tripped. Too many links with the same anchor text and you're penalised. It can take a long time to recover if that's the problem.

I know what you're saying but for G it's all algorithms...they know that a 'normal' site gets all kinds of different link texts, so if, say, 75% of your links have the same anchor text they can conclude that, on balance, you are probably trying to trick your way to the top. In most cases they'd be right.

In my experience this filter doesn't seem to apply to one word keyphrases, but I can't be sure...
