"Buying links" - seems like your site is so poor that nobody would like to link to it and you are forced to pay people to do so.

There is nothing new mentioned in this article. Most of the tips that it has are quite generic, stuff that we already know. I do not agree with a few points either. Like for example, the sitewide link issue. I think it works like a charm, unless of course you start abusing it. 2 or 3 sitewide links every month is not going to hurt you but 10 defenitely would! You can't abuse any thing, be it sitewide, link exchange or keyword stuffing etc etc. You have to play by the rules.

Second, I also do not agree with the MAKE YOUR LINKS LOOK NATURAL. Ok my name is Zeeshan and suppose that I am a rockstar and I have my personal page online and I ask people to link back to me with the anchor text "rockstar". Thousands of my fans would link back to me with my name being the anchor text. Would google penalize me for this? Would I not rank well on it? Of course I am going to rank well on it, that's how Google works. So if you are concenterating on a single keyword that is highly competitive, don't be shy. Go ahead and keep working on it. It would probably mean that you won't get high ranks on other keywords but practicing this technique will not damage you in any way.

What's wrong with reciprocal link exchange? Unless you change your site into a linkfarm, it doesn't matter. Reciprocal link exchange still works even if it's effect is petite, it still does work.

For all the readers who want to learn more about ranking high, search this forum for answers. You'll get them. See what the current trends are and check what the majority is saying. Experiment here and there but don't push it. Work on your link building and stay calm. You'll get there eventually.

Useful tips but I prefer not to buy links, google is too hot for this issue.

    1. Don't buy (or sell) sitewide links for serps. Buy links from individual pages*.

I dont agree with this, please give me your answer on this one. But all the rest i agree on

I disagree with this. I've never submitted to one of those hundreds/thousands of submit sites nor paid for site wide links and do all my link submissions one by one. I have very few links compared to my competitors yet I usually rank in top 10 for keywords I target whereas my competitors have hundreds of thousands of links.

    I don't like those sites either ;)
You can also see that the site has 0 pagerank, no metatags, and is not registered in any directories, but is still in top10 search results for some very competitive keywords. It really doesn't matter, when you have such a powerful tool. What really matters is relevant content and LINKS.

Well, the only sure thing to have come from this debate is that everyone has different priorities and different experiences with links, Google etc...

I do agree that a good quality website with good content that people want to read is the best start strategy, but how it's linked to and how the links are obtained is then a matter for the webmaster to work out - if the strategy feels wrong, then it probably is.

As for Google and paid links, a very interesting blog post I read recently (can't remember where, but I'll update the post when I find it) suggested that commercial sites don't tend to be linked to as strongly as non-commercial sites, so they are lower in the organic rankings, so it is these sites that obtain paid links. If paid link schemes were banned, then commercial enterprises would have to go for PPC to be found. And who runs the widest known PPC setup? It is a cynical theory but one that I can see being quite close to the truth.

Thanx TNX. Great advice on links. It will get me up to speed in this neglected area of my internet marketing.

Although I'm also very interested in getting traffic from non-search engine sources. Like trying out traffic trading. SERP's is many times such a crap shoot.
