Kings and queens are there and stabilize politics. It's history...it's more than 200 years...
Why not to take some Europeans vacation next time, just to see what happens. You know, get out, the sunday, after the mass...there's civilization out there...

How about just getting rid of all marriage; it is a failed philosophy statistically speaking. Divorce rates in America will be pushing 60% by 2010.

What I saw in Europe was the decline of marriage and decline in birth rates. I'm sure that gay marriage has something to do with it.

The low birthrate in Spain prompts Spain to approve child bonus

The Spanish birth rate has plunged over the past 20 years and Spain has gone into decline since the 1990's when they started to do gay civil unions

Nothing to do with gay marriage. The reason is higher and higher education.
Young people take their carrers first before family because they want to use their diploma o make money first. Marriage happens in an average age of 28 y/o.
In Belgium, beginning of the 90's, they were to many doctors and they limited the university's place in the medical field.
In the US, where 40% of college people can't even put the US on a map, marriage and first child happen at 17 y/o, just after the first joint.
In the US, the context is different though. The education is very low ad will remain that way, to make sure that the government can control the population. When a dude say 'we're going to make war to Irak to prevent terrorism', the population believe it. He would have said 'Let's make war to Zimbabwe and Paraguay to stop their space races', the population would have believed it...
I work in the US for some reasons and my daughter is 16 y/o: she is unable to calculate mentally!!! I talk to her teacher about that and the teacher told e she, herself, is unable to calculate mentally!!! This is one of the hundreds of example...
Bottom line, it's a question of education...

Birthrates drop because we live in modern society where it is not necessary for everyone to mass spawn kids in order to survive

100-200 years ago people died so easily from disease it was normal to have a ton of kids because some wouldn't make it, also everyone worked on farms so a big family was helpful

Thats not true anymore, if you have one kid most likely it will survive, you don't need to 10 kids to help on the farm. Populations are bigger, less people means less division of resources and better quality of living.

That is sure to a certain extent. When you start into population decline that Europe you start to generate a whole set of problems.

It all seems to come down to semantics. It appears to boil down to who should have the right to the word marriage.

Definition of Marriage Is at Heart of California Case

Personally, I don't care who gets married. I respect any healthy, happy relationship between two people. Although it would be weird saying, "this is Mister and Mister Williams".

If the right to be married is what is correct "in the eyes of God", then how is it acceptable to be married by an Elvis impersonator or Justice of the Peace?

Does being respected by a religion, be it Christianity and Hindu, give them exclusive rights to the word and concept?

    Why isn't "Civil Union" acceptable?

A naturally intended relationship between mature people would be a good start.
Although nature has no marriage, it is a human custom.

Otherwise there would be the issue of child marriages.
And some villagers in india rarely wed animals in formal ceremonies, as per recommendations of astrologers to correct defects or bad karma in their horoscope and future married life. Would that count as marriage ?

Any two (or more) consenting adults should be able to do anything they wish as long as it doesn't infringe on anyone else.

IMHO, marriage is not for gays, marriage is between a man and a woman. They can call it a union or whatever, but not a marriage
