that's just the receiver though, I have nothing to connect it to ATM...now...can I use this to track my daughter in 10-12 years? this is ~ what I had in mind originally: Mio - DigiWalker C520 - GPS Navigation Device With 4.3-Inch Wide Touch Screen, Bluetooth, MP3 And Photo Capabilities http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...240-1026&CMP=EMC-TIGEREMAIL&SRCCODE=WEM1460IS but I think Ahkip was onto something with the PDA/GPS add-on. I could get a Palm TX and a GPS receiver for $350-400 or less if used. That way I'd have a nice PDA too
I decided to go with a Palm TX and a BT GPS. Even if the GPS isn't as solid as a dedicated unit, at least I'll have the PDA with Wifi and all the other bells and whistles! Can't wait to get everything
Sorry I'm chiming in late on your thread. I have a Garmin etrex aslo (but I have the pretty GREEN one...) It's a fun little toy, but it's a bit outdated now.
better a late chime than no chime at all! I didn't think having just a regular dedicated GPS would be worth it as far as usage for me so I went the other route. heard both good and bad about the BT adders to PDA's...we'll know in about a week!
Hmmm, I have a small GPS unit, it isn't a real fancy one but I'm not exactly sure why you would really need one. We use it when we go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. There are some fairly popular locations, you would never be able to find them without a GPS. It gets us from A to B and marks our location, I suppose thats what you need, right?
when we take trips or when I go on hikes to take pictures I think it would be nice to have. part that, part I just want a fun gadget
so far so good on the PALM TX and the BT GPS. IT didn't want to sync in my driveway today but once it found the satellites it was golden. Pretty cool too as it gives audible turns and distances. NOW, getting my LT to communicate with the TX is an entirely different story...no good I'm sure it's either my LT or windows though
really? can you browse the internet on the go without the GPS that you do not have I was checking the weather today prior to seeing a movie at the theatre on my Palm
My Palm TX and GPS combo worked great the few times I have been able to get the Palm to see the GPS receiver. I think the blue tooth on the Palm is busted...it never sees the GPS...nor have I ever been able to get my LT to see the Palm. How would you test that though? For all I know there is an outside shot the GPS is the problem and you never know with PC's...might be a funky driver or something.
I dont understand why people like to use GPS while they can use a map? there are many new model and getting cheaper now. maybe i should buy one to try.
b/c regular maps for the most part a PITA! not to mention that GPS maps can show you 1K more things than a regular map can
Plus reading a map correctly takes a bit of experience and practice! I never rely on just a GPS - always go equipped with a map and lightweight compass too.
yes! exactly! they are as messy as the insid of a pita I prefer the stars but light pollution is so rampant these days
I would rather stick to the real map not the GPS. I dont think there are much information in GPS about the place and road here in china and in thailand for me. Actually getting lost is some kind of fun too, dont you think so?
getting lost or exploring is even fun, more so though when you can see the streets and stuff that's a game right? or I might be thinking of scavenger hunts
treasure hunts are maps/points that you download onto your gps, then you find a way to get the marked spot and there is a treasure waiting. usually the treasure is just the adventure getting to the spot, or a good view, but sometimes you'll find something there.
