    I was at a marketing seminar and asked the lecturer, "if I had a restaurant, wouldn't my target audience be, everyone? The same with a financial services company -- wouldn't my market be, everybody?"

    His response:

    "Take Nissan for example. They have a 3% market share. That means only 3 out of every 100 people will buy a Nissan. Your target market are those 3 people."

    The reason a niche will make you more money, is that you are not wasting your time, effort and money marketing to the 97 people least likely to buy your product. Instead, you are concentrating all of your effort to the 3 people most likely to spend money on your product.

    It is a specific market with a specific range of products. This market has a range of keywords and topics/subtopics.

    Not all niches pay the same. Normally, the more "mainstream" the niche, the more competitors you have. There are obscure but highly valued domains. Just think of the target audience and how hard it is to reach them. If that market has money OR is hard enough to reach that advertisers will pay BIG money to reach them, you've got yourself a winning niche.

    Happy hunting!

    I don't agree with this at all. That's saying you get those three people and no one else. The innovative person looks beyond his alloted 3 people and tries to increase his market share. He does this by making his product more attractive to the fence-sitters and winning them over.

    Niche means products it is nothing but keywords. Actually the meaning is not keyword. Here in the terms of adsense is keywords

    a further example of a niche is this:
    Cars --> Toyotas --> Highlander --> 6 cylinder --> blue
    or
    Cars --> Toyotas --> NEW owners

    the "tighter" your niche the less competition you'll have, but also less potential visitors
