    My take

    Huckabee did quite well. He's an excellent speaker, and presents an aura of calm.

    Ron Paul was jagged and disorganized. I thought this was his worst debate yet. Almost nervous.

    Sam Brownback doesn't strike me as particularly on the ball. He tends to repeat the question and repeat himself.

    Tom Tancredo, he's actually quite smart and I agree with him on a lot of things. But he has some kind of speaking impediment that really affects his delivery.

    Duncan Hunter, man I just can't get behind this guy. He must have referred to his work in "the barrio" as a lawyer about a dozen times, and the way he kinda leans over the pulpit sideways creeps me out ala "Uncle Sam wants you".

    Alan Keyes played a lot to the black vote. He's a good speaker, with uber busy hands, but I think he really marginalized himself with the Republican core and young voters by constantly referring to the black community's problems, rather than solutions except for "rebuilding the two parent family".

    My last thought on this is, it's so nice to get rid of Giuliani, Romney and McCain who tend to hog a lot of the answer time in the other debates, and get a real look at the 2nd and 3rd tier candidates. And when, if ever, will Fred Thompson actually make an appearance? He's the candidate who never answers the people, which doesn't bode well for a Republican party that is facing an uphill battle with the field mostly supporting the war.

    Fred Thompson is overrated, imho.
    Giulani, Romney and McCain would make terrible presidents, and their policies will be similar to that of Bush.
    If you like Bush and you think that he is a great president, then these guys would do just fine.
    If you are ready for change and would like this country to take a different direction, then Ron Paul is the candidate of choice.

    True, plus...
    • His beautiful tie was a perfect match with the graphic they kept in the lower-left corner.
    • He is a really good speaker, but...

    I've heard Huckabee doesn't accept the reality of evolution.
    Also, he's very pro-war.

    Ron's due for a few days off, after the end of the month.

    • He did have, far and away, the most positive response from the crowd.

    He was speaking really well in Michigan and Chicago last week.

    Another man who (reportedly) tries to debunk evolution (hasn't he heard of intelligent design)

    True

    :D

    I know who Keyes is, but had never heard him speak.
    • When he ran for Senate (in Illinois), the newspaper put some of his strongly anti-gay views in a front page headline, so...
    • I wasn't expecting him to be a semi-flaming ____ :rolleyes:
    • Alan K and Rudy G might both do better as Democrats or Independents ;)

    Very true.
    The format was fair, and each round went by pretty fast.

    ~~~
    Also, Ron Paul made several important points about the way big government hurts most Americans.
