I sure hope not. I am about to start using stumbleupon because of all the goods things I have been hearing.....that would be a HUGE bummer.....

On a side note, does anyone know someone that is doing "social bookmarking" services as a freelancer. I don't know the first thing about social bookmarking on blogs So i have decided to outsource the project.

I can give you an invite to diggboss.com if you like - basically it's where you can accumulate points for stumbling/digging other peoples stories and sites, so that you can add your own campaigns for others to stumble/digg - works on a 1:2 ratio I think.

PM me if you're interested man..

Yes, they do ban for stumbleupon traffic. They dont call it that when they ban you though. It is called invalid impressions through users of
third-party programs paid or provided with other incentives to visit
your site. Such programs include, but are not limited to auto-surf,
pay-to-surf, pay-to-read, or pay-to-click sites. The visitors didnt really intend to go there or they are just surfing with no intention to visit any of your ads. This in turn lowers your CTR. When your CTR falls below a certain average such as 1%-2$ this will initiate the fald and you will get the warning email. A second attempt at this or choosing not to cease these actions will get you banned. Hope this helps and if it does rate the posting.

    Apparently so:

Stumbleupon can get your AdSense Account Banned for Invalid Impressions Fraud

That posted, I have to say that I have a site that gets hundreds of visitors a month from SU, and I'm not sweating it. As long as SU is a small portion of your overall traffic, I doubt Google is even going to notice, and you can hardly blame people for stumbling you. :)

IF it's the only traffic you get though, then it's probably something to worry about...

social bookmarking is not something we can control , even if we didn't stumble wut if some others stumble the site ? Also people who would visit from stumble are only who has a interest on topic its not like those click exchange programs. I don't see why Google would ban a publisher for this.

Stumbleupon traffic may sometimes be considered poor quality traffic.

Its like landing on a site without even knowing what it is going to be.

I guess too much traffic (percentage-wise) from stumble upon can create problems.

Well, then lets say (for arguement's sake) I hate your site. I go and stumble it and buy 1000 stumbles for your site. You get 10,000 visitors because you got 1,000 stumbles in 1 day. You're banned.

    I win, competition over.

We can just say that we don't control SU or Digg or any other Social Bookmarking site, and if people like our site, and use those applications, then how are we to blame?

You could do that by buying traffic from other sources as well.

Sabotage is possible with Adsense if done cleverly.

One or two days' traffic is not going to do much damage. However, if a site is getting most of its traffic from stumbleupon, then Google may not find it suitable for the Adsense program.

    *Coughs******

Here is what all you noobs forget :)

Google does have "human reviews" as well.......

Trust me they look at sites......

1/2 to 3/4 of the stumble threads I see here on dp have nothing but sites that should be banned anyhow,

If you have a legit site with REAL, UNIQUE , and interesting content that will cause a low bounce rate you will be golden in googles eyes,

But if you stumble some piece of shit mfa, ads all over the place and worthless , crappy and same old shit everyone else is doing that of course they will ban your ass.

If you feel that you could submit your site to a contest for the best site ever, and really think it would win, then you will never have to worry about being banned,

If you create a shitty site just for the money , one day your ass will be banned,

Just do what humans used to do ..........Do whats right for the Human, ..Create Quality :)

Unnatural traffic is seen as spamming and fraudulent clicking. If your bookmarks are often clicked on by the same group of users, then it will arouse Google's suspicions.

Stay close to "natural traffic" driving and it should be safe. Try to make sure the bulk of your traffic do not come from Social Bookmarking but distribute your traffic generation into various techniques so that it does not raise a flag with them.

I agree with that. One should not apply for adsense until one is in a position where stumbleupon isn't the main referrer anymore. Not so much for reasons of getting banned, but because until your site gets significant amounts of regular traffic, worrying about page impressions is just a waste of time and you won't be making much money through adsense anyhow.
