PageRank remains an important part of Google's ranking methods, but it is not the only factor. Beyond simple PageRank, other aspects of the links that point to a page are very important. And, of course, the content of the page itself will play a major role. The bottom line is there is no single, overriding factor that you can master and expect top rankings. Search engine optimization is much more complex than that. Read more tutorials for beginners and don't look for shortcuts to success. There aren't any.

I think not, there are sites that are high in SERP but low in PR, or having 0 PR.

PR is more of a trusting factor that gauges how much confidence Google has in your site. But that doesn't mean your site has very high relevancy to the terms searched. If two sites are equal in everything else, having a higher PR should give you a boost in rankings, but PR doesn't equal relevancy. Relevancy is what Google's rankings are based on. I have seen so many PR0 pages ranked at the top.

PR doesn't give direct connection with the SERP. You can have good SERP even your site has low PR.

PR is just a score of your site depending on the quality of your links. I don't get why other webmaster get crazy over it, since it doesn't give direct contribution in improving SERP. I think PR tells how your site seen by google as authority or important.

SERP is really important because it gives quality traffic to your site.

I have a 3 month-old site and it ranks in 1st page for certain unpopular keywords. When I page down, I noticed it beats some higher PR sites.
The reasons behind this because they are not targeting those keywords.
I have more emphasis and matches on those keywords in my pages.

But if you are in situation that you and your competitor sites both target the same keywords, whoever has a higher PR, whoever has a bigger chance to do well in SERP.

Correct me if I'm wrong. This is my understanding.

Pagerank is one factor in a list of over 200 factors that determine serps. And that is real PR, Toolbar isn't used anywhere in the google algo, ever.

It really depends on the quality of inbound links that have build that PR and also how good the site interlinking is all around. Also, the age of the website has a lot to do with it. Read my articles and you will learn a lot more info.

You can have a high SERP even if you are low or 0 PR.
