I just tried to put a shelf up, in my room today. So i was using a nail gun in order to attach the shelf to the wall, well as my luck has it I missed the shelf completely and fired a nail into my finger… it got imbedded so I pulled it out with my teeth. Its letting loads of puss out now. Should I have gone to hospital?

And any one else did anything along these lines?

Let's go with... Go to the hospital NOW.

You know there is a HIGH chance you could be infected now, the nail doesn't even have to be rusty.

    Atleast go to a doctor...

Have you had a tetanus shot? If not, you should go. If so, just keep it clean and you should be fine.

But don't let it start getting infected.

I try to stay out of the hospital unless I'm going to die otherwise. :p

Dude, as a son of a pharmacist, I can say the wound doesn't look good. It probably is not so bad but still you can give hospital a visit in case of a possible infection.

I agree with Rob. If you've gotten a tetanus shot, just clean it out very well and then use that liquid band-aid stuff (I think it's called NuSkin?) to guarantee that nothing further will get inside the wound.

Hospital = last resort IMO; you'll just end up sitting in the large waiting room for 3-4 hours and then the smaller waiting room for a couple more.

Are you crazy! Of course you should go to the hospital, or at least to the doctor. A friend of mine had similar happen and the bone became infected. This was a long process to heal. Get help NOW. Karla

What's the hospital going to do that he can't?

Just clean it and keep antibiotic ointment on it. You'll be fine!!!!*

*Don't blame me if your hand falls off though!

what a bunch of wimps here. if the nail went in and out and you can move your finger, quit whining. tetanus shots are good for ten years i'm sure you had one. put a bandaid on it and drink a beer.

Despite what the others have said it doesn't look that bad to me. Just keep it spotlessly clean and drained and it should heal up fine.

a country boy can take a little pain.

Time before that I got a chunk of metal in my eye.

Otherwise I stay the hell away from them.

Eww. I would have gone to the hospital. Only because I know what happens when a nail penetrates your body and you don't go to the hospital.

Me too. The last time I went was because a hunk of flesh was hanging off of my chin after a car accident.

And the time before that was because I wasn't able to eat for five days.

But my general policy is to stay away unless absolutely necessary.

And this kid's wound looks pretty clean- IMO.

If you go to hospital they'd just clean it and butterfly it like you've done. It's not a stitch job because it's too close to the joint and wouldn't hold. Trust me - it'll be okay.
