Just Curious......Is Blog Commenting Still Alive?

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by writingman1421, Sep 27, 2007.

    The title says it all.

I have heard of people commenting on blogs and then leaving their website URL. Is this still a viable solution to getting backlinks?

Obviously you wouldn't just spam blogs, you would make useful comments....but the question remains, does it still work?

    Thanks.

I can only tell for WordPress-Blogs. By default, they have rel="nofollow" on comment-links. But many, many bloggers do use a "DoFollow"-Plugin, which removes these tags from links, so they will work as any other backlink.

But, NEVER, NEVER fall into comment-spamming on blogs. These links won´t even last long enough for any searcheninge to spider them.

    It all helps.

ALthough you wouldnt want all or evejn the vast majority of your links to be from comments. Google is probably smart enough to devalue these by now.

Still it helps a great deal. To get good return you have to comment on well known blogs and you got to be one of the top 3.

    Okay, thanks for the replies.

So basically, it might help.....but not a whole lot. And, I would have to find the most popular blogs or it wouldn't do much good. That about right?

they help, if you can offer a meaningful comment that will add value to the post.. it can be information, advice, or even a grouse.. make it 100-200 words of useful matter and a gracious webmaster should allow you a link. over times, these link do add value and also help you get noticed in your area of expertise

I'm doing blog commenting and my links in my comment are still counted as backlinks.

I comment on blogs, but I do it because I enjoy the discussion that occurs on some interesting topics. Any backlinks are a nice byproduct, but it's not the reason to do it.

Well In a way its still helpful, coz if the Blog you are commenting on (serious comment, not just for a backlink,we bloggers hate that) has a decent traffic and is updated regularly its helps.

The Do Follow blogs is something that you should look at. To get a comprehensive list you can check the Do Follow Blogs list on Blogrolling.

If they have a no follow tag then it's useless. I find comments that are self-promotive a little spammy and tend to delete them. A link pointing to your blog when completing the commenting form is enough imho.

The "no follow" links still carry weight. I own a site that ranks top 10 for a name I sometimes use to comment on a few blogs. All have the "no follow" tag, and I have no natural backlinks using the name (it would be an odd match for my site).

There are a number of studies on this. They carry some weight, just not as much.

At least what is sure is it doesn't hurt. Moreover even if no PR is transferred you may get some new human visitors this way.

I wouldn't be suprised if no follow links and no indexed pages still carry weight and affect you in quite a few ways. I wouldn't rely on it, but you have to look at the definition.

All no follow means is that you don't know or vouch for the website on the other end. All no index means is that you don't want a page included within the index. It doesn't mean they're not going to cache it and check to see if its duplicate content.

Don't count on no-follow as your main line of link building, but I wouldn't discount it either.

Although the actual link may not be of much benefit in terms of SEO, useful comments on blogs relevant to your particlar niche are useful because they can bring more targetted traffic to your site, which may then provide good natural links to your site.

IF you do a serious comment, according to the subject, other "commentors" will follow your link...so you build up traffic

I've found that comments do work, however it depends on your definition of work.

I've placed relevant comments on blogs that are somehow related to my site and they definitely show up when a site:www... is queried. So they do get indexed.

I've also received traffic, sometimes significant traffic, from blog comments but I always leave relevant comments, and in most case my comment gets published. They probably notice where the traffic is going, assuming they run an exit report, but most don't seem to mind.

I would think that it's still alive. As long as you don't make it obvious that it's spam. If they are valuable comments, it should be ok.

It is still very good . Just make good , useful comments on sites with HIGH PR and dofollow ( if a site has a top commentators sections , it should have dofollow tag) and youll get good quality back links
