Strong backlinks certainly won't hurt. How man searches per day does your keyword phrase get and how many quality sites are in front of you?
OK, this advice is NOT for when you want a high quality web site where you get return visitors, organic seo listings and viral dissemination of your site. This advice is meant for PPC campaigns and making the highest return off your clicks. If your traffic is mainly coming from PPC you can make a simple site or even just a landing page with a heavy empasis on the ads and minimal content (I recommend a couple of medium or large adsense rectangles). Don't have any other links of the page if you can help it. But don't make it look fugly, the colors and layout need to be good so the visitor doesn't hit backspace right away. By providing minimal content and links, and heavily emphasizing the ads in as natural a way as possible, you will have a much higher CTR. Remember, this is for sites with PPC driven traffic where you don't care if the visitor returns. So basically: - one page sites are ok - minimal or no other links on page - central presentation of ads - most content below ads - page layed out and colored tastefully Purists will dislike this method. It really depends whether your interest is primarily in building quality web sites; or making money. It is tough though, as adsense arbitrage is not easy. But when you succeed its like a little money making machine.
