Hello there! Recently i began reading about site promotion and found the info about ODP. So it was written that all the pages of a certain site shouldn't be submitted to ODP, especially if there are over 200 pages. Yeah, maybe 200 pages are a lot. But what if there are some 30 pages? Why not if all the pages contain unique and useful content? Thank you for answers, guys! P. S. If you know any interesting information about site promotion or great links... Look forward to getting them! Thanx!
That's not how ODP works. You're supposed to find the one category that fits your site the best and submit to it. If the editor thinks the content is valuable enough to list individual pages in other categories they will do it themselves. If you do it, it will be seen as spam. If your site has a physical presence somewhere you can also submit to that locality.
ODP editors are listing deeplinks only when they're really usefull for a category, and the main site isn't listed in the same category, one of the parent or one of the childs. It's pretty rare. Start by listing only your index page, and ask an editor if he think there might be a deeplinking.
I have a site that has two DMOZ listings. One for the location due to its physical presence and one in another category due to the free tools and downloads available for that particular category. I only asked for the listing to the root. The deep link came as a surprise to me.
Unfortunately, I seriously doubt that many, if any really give a site this consideration when reviewing a submission. I doubt they look beyond inclusion of the "site" as a whole in a topical category and maybe placement within the Regional category.
That is not true, compostannie's statement is. But few sites would deserve such listing. Not all editors will do this, but many do, sites are carefully looked at. Editors often comment that they have taken 20 minutes to review a site. Individual sites are discussed in the forums, if it should be included and where.
Reviewing takes about a minute, writing non-hype but still interesting description instead of retarded copy/pasting same one over and over again takes about half an hour.
I generally spent more then a minute looking over a site. I'd click several links looking for dead ones or lack of content. Then of those pages, I'd pull random sentences out to see if they were copy/pasted from other sources, then try to determine if any duplicate content was original to that site, or the sites I found elsewhere. But yes, the description did take longer. I'd often write one, let it sit in the queue for a few days trying to decide if that is what I wanted or not. I am happy that my category didn't have the same description re-worded for every link...each was different, and that certainly takes longer...and longer still for the deeper one gets into the directory.
Of all the editors I know and have spoken with regarding this, not one has said they actually look beyond the inclusion of the site as a whole in the submitted or related category. Every web site owner that I know of whom has multiple listings within dmoz has them because they took the initiative to submit the pages to the corresponding category and not because some editor did.
When I applied to be an editor, I had to submit three sites on the application (of course one was mine the other two I found in external sources. When my application was approved I found several other sites for inclusion. Yeah, yeah, I never once approved a submitted site, but then, there were no submitted sites *shrug* Not in my little corner anyway. So yes, I can attest that editors do look up sites on their own. Whether or not I was in the minority I can not say. Q
I'm not sure what this has to do with adding deeplinks from a site, unless you're trying to suggest that you did?
Sorry, missed he word multiple and read it as simply "listings". No, I did not add any deep links, in fact, from what I can tell, the best way to get multiple listings is to be an Admin of DMOZ itself, such as Skrenta with well over 10k listings of his affiliated sites.
I don't think may editors have added deeplinks, nor do they even consider the possibility when reviewing sites. It's a Catch22 - editors say don't submit them, they'll decide if the deeplinks should be added, but when reviewing a site they don't look to see if any pages would add value to the directory if listed in other categories. I still recommend that if you have content worthy of inclusion on other categories to submit it. I'm not talking about submitting various products you offer to every category of Shopping, but if your site offers content that's going to add value to another category, to submit it. The odds that an editor would ever consider it is slim to none.
slim to none that it will get listed and a fair chance you will start getting the reputation of a spammer.
Sad really that there are Admin and editors that do have multiple submissions, yet a submitter trying to do the same gets labeled as a spammer. But then, that does seem to be the norm at DMOZ. To get a site listed, become an editor. To get multiple sites listed be an editall, to get your entire site indexed become an admin.
