I have been reading lots on SEO and trying to make some sites pay off for me down the road and in the midst of all this learning, I had a problem with a client from my real job. I did some work and wasn't paid. A real David and Golaith tale, but knowing all I learnt about Google and SEO, I created a blog and within 3 days of beginning my blog, when you google the large company I am dealing with, my blog shows up on the first page. When you google the names of some of the people involved, my blog shows up FIRST. They have been ignoring my emails but they wont be able to ignore me now. I can't believe it only took 3 days. Wow. I owe it because of the information I have gathered and a lot of it came from here. Now, I just got to take this knowledge and somehow make it pay with AdSense. Thanks darkp1x
Well, It looks like they found my blog. I got an interesting email from them today, it wasnt so much addressed to me but it was a CC and was sent to their accounting firm, the Owner, the Project Manager and myself. They didn't address me personally, but the email said, inform us of the PO and the what is the status of payment so we can inform (ME) asap. I tell you, this day and age, you don't want to mess with someone who has a little SEO knowledge. Thanks again for the loads of information I found so freely on this board.
Hmmmmm. I've been thinking of doing this to websites that copy my content and don't take it down which means having to fill out a DMCA report which takes several hours. It would take less time to make a new page and more people will see it too. Good idea!
One of the owners of the company (whose name I targeted with Google) emailed me tonight to let me know the matter is being address and a cheque will be issued quickly. Until I have it in my hands, I am still blogging
LoriVa The luck of having a blog post outrank a company's webpage indicates the keyword term is of little or no competition. Where as if you have a page focused on a term such as 'search marketing' it would take quite a few months to accomplish. So if your pages are focused on competitive keyword terms, in the long run you will spend less time filing the DMCA form. No offense to the OP
yeah, as far as SEO goes, it wasn't that tough for my blog to hit the keywords. It was like shooting a Large man with a shotgun at close range, I was bound to hit something. Thanks for the support, I really like this forum
Haha, very witty. Congrats on getting their attention. What is your plan if / when you receive payment? I think they would expect you do undo your SEO wizardry.
Nice work!i little less little more i do the same.dont get easily disapoint every start is dificult and dont sit back because serps change every day and also consider the new site effect. keep up the good work.
Thanks, I will delete the blog once the cheque clears It looks like it will be taken care of quicly. I hope
Hi Sem, . Actually I can put up a new article and it usually ranks very high right away. I have reviewed a million dollar design company that is scamming people and am outranking them for their own name.
I have one website link on my 'day job' site, to a photographer who is a preferred vendor of mine. The tiny link and a sentence shows up first page when ever anyone googles her. Her site is nowhere to be found and I get more hits going through my site for her then I do for myself Over the years She has never thanked me or given me a back link so, after reading here and understanding how valuable, my SEO work has been, I removed the URL tag Point being, a lot of sites have no SEO design whatsoever and it's pretty easy to highjack them, even it your not trying.
I think there is a 12 step group for people who 'google' themselves to much... but in this case, It is a large company with head offices in three different cities, I had a few key names targeted as well as some events they where a part off. The odds of staff, friends, associates or clients.(or even themselves) finding it where pretty high:
wow..as I am writing all of this, they just emailed me saying the cheque was emailed yesterday and appolgised for "the unusual delay in processing" Cool.
