Yes, editing the advertisement code is against the AdSense TOS. But I agree, very nice placement.

Not if they are premium publisher.
You "only need":) one site with more than 20.000.000 monthly hits to become premium publisher and you can edit adsense code on all your sites.

So maybe this site is a part from some bigger network.

Otherwise editing the advertisement code is against the TOS

Very good placement, he should get a fair amount out of that if he has a lot of traffic :)

According to Alexa that's a top 9000 site and they seem seem to have a number of editors adding content and links.

No, has 2 people have mentioned the site is a premium publisher allowing them to edit the adsense code. decent placement because it's at the way bottom and it has a border around it.

I don't think google should allow that. It doesn't look like ads it looks like Content! what about the adwords people who lose money to this, to have someone click and realise it was a deception and click the back button.?

I would think Google would be kinda free on what it allowed on a gossip site. On more serious sites they would limit what is done. Advertisers on sites with gossip are looking for any old eye balls not a corporate director of purchasing looking for enterprise compliance consultants.
