What is supplemental result? I saw that some websites which updated its news more than twice a day have many supplemental results (for example: www.sportinglife.com, I check it in SEO for firefox). Why is that? I don't think those popular websites duplicated other websites' content.
... zomg.... search google... THIS IS FIRST RESULT!!! http://www.seobook.com/archives/001545.shtml "Supplemental results usually only show up in the search index after the normal results. They are a way for Google to extend their search database while also preventing questionable pages from getting massive exposure."
Google indexes around 3.3 billion web pages and that’s a something huge. The search engine giant has set some parameters on the basis of which pages are crawled and indexed. Now Google has 2 web indexes, one is the main index and the other is the supplemental index. When for some reason Google feels that a particular page cannot be included in the main index, it puts it in the Supplementary Pages. Supplemental index is not an index of penalized pages, nor is a trash bin. As the search engine has to index billions of pages, they have set some quality parameters on the basis of which they include pages in the main or in the supplemental index. Many new pages go supplemental just for the reason that they don’t qualify enough to be in the main index.
why they don't qualify enough? So you think most news in the website I mentioned above didn't have enough "quality"? What is the standard of index quality then? Even SEObook have plenty of supplemental pages, why is that? I have seen many websites with similar pages each other but why Google didn't put those web pages in supplemental result?
Now Google has 2 web indexes, one is the main index and the other is the supplemental index. When for some reason Google feels that a particular page cannot be included in the main index, it puts it in the Supplementary Pages. Google will pull out your pages of the supplemental index once it finds those pages worthy enough to be in the main index. Have great content and build links from quality and related sites.
A list of sites in a supplemental index where pages/sites contain duplicate content, no content, and orphaned links.
Supplemental Result is a URL residing in Google's supplemental index, a secondary database containing pages of less importance, as measured primarily by Google's PageRank algorithm. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supplemental_Result
are you sure? I think those web pages went to supplemental results only because the headlines were similar with web page from other website. Take a look into the comparison here. (sorry to talk about sport site because I am too lazy to check other websites) 1. sportinglife.com (like I mentioned above). They had 152,000 supplemental results 2. uksoccershop.com. Look at each web page of the product. For example: http://www.uksoccershop.com/products/3791.html and http://www.uksoccershop.com/products/7107.html All of his webpages are very similar each other which I think it doesn't have enough quality in front of SE's but why uksoccershop have only 6 supplemental result? Personally, I have around more than 700 supplemental result and I don't know why. I always created my own content and if you don't believe me, check each of my web pages in copyscape. But strangely, my supplemental pages keep increasing every day. Is this happening because I always created 5-8 content every day? I have checked many websites which created many contents every day and I think most of them had the same problem. I can give you much more example if you want to. I know plenty of quality websites which I think never duplicated other contents but they had tons of supplemental web pages. Why is that?
