Famous Christians who are musicians, athletes, artists, writers, actors, millionaires, celebrities, all vow that God has helped them in their quest for success. I watched an interview with Kanye West (he's one of my favourite artists) and he said that God made him have a car crash on purpose so he would become famous. I watched interviews after the Olympics, with the athletes praising God who helped their performance. I could go on with further examples, but here's my point. Why the hell would God be helping the most fortunate 1% of the worlds population, some of the luckiest people to ever have lived on Earth, when there's people starving in Africa? There's kids being beaten to death, but God isn't helping them, he's helping Kanye West produce a track. There's women being raped whilst their kids throats are slit, but God isn't there, he's helping some Athlete run a little faster. It's a load of bull. Where's the logic in that?
It's good publicity. It's bad publicity when they declare that their Emmy Award is their God now, as Kathy Griffin recently did.
Question: do they vow God helped them? Or do they thank God? I would have to thank God for everything I have and I do. I do believe some just say it when they get their awards, etc... not quite sure why though. Maybe it is a superstition they have?
Most celebrities and millionaires who claim that God helped with their quest for success are losers. If God helped them, you'd think they would actually succeed at something
Really. The question is. Why does it bother you? People think not changing their socks helps them win games. Not showering helps them win. If people need something to help them focus, what's the big deal. Does it really affect you one way or another?
People never say "Well Jesus made me drop the football" or "Jesus made me miss the kick to win the game". He only helps the winners apparently.
It does bother me. Rather than thanking God for helping them run a little faster and become more rich and famous, why not ask God to help people who will starve to death in the next minute? You can't compare someone saying 'God helped me achieve this' to 'My lucky socks helped me achieve this'.
I just realized you said famous Christians. I have to ask who these "famous Christians" are. There is a reason for me asking because I am betting there is some assumption you have made. I thought it said something about famous people in general, I didn't know you specified it - I guess I read it too fast.
I already did give an example in my original post. I hear a lot of people thanking God for their achievements, I'm pretty sure it's not just me. Put on any award ceremony and I bet you will get at least 1 person thanking God for some shitty award they won which was voted on by a committee.
Stars, sports stars, etc.. but I asked specifically about Christians. I think you proved my point - you think all Americans are Christians. Which is incorrect but a common misconception especially among muslims that frequent this forum. Even people who say things like that are not Christian by proxy, do they claim Christianity? Just like the guy who had the dog fights who says he found Jesus, we will have to see if it is true or a sympathy plea. Even a couple of the pop-tarts have been seen with Bible's while serving time or in rehab, but that seems to pass as quickly as the sobriety.
