Directory owners are bone idle when it comes to descriptions.

What is it with directory owners that just cant be arsed writing a decent length description for there directory when they are submitting there websites to other directories.

I have so far rejected over 50% of the directories submitted to my directory for this very thing instead of a decent description they just repeat the same few lines over and over to get around the minimum character limit.

    Example from a recent submission.
Now this tells me 2 things
    1) The owner is not very professional at running a directory
    2) Dont bother submitting to there directory if they cant be arsed.

Its not that hard to write a decent description and if you cant do it then get someone to do one for you.

    Edit: Another quality description:

And I thought that was part of an editors job - to edit the titles and descriptions of submissions?

i edit titles and i edit spelling and grammer of descriptions

what i wont do is completely rewrite a description because the submitter could not be arsed writing a decent one in the first place.

Rewriting a description can go a long way in helping to establish unique content for your index. Consider the submitted description as just a suggestion.

But yes, I understand your frustration with the crap that gets submitted. I like the ones who copy and paste their description a second or third time to meet the minimum character count.

I completely agree with you. Webmaster sometimes go after getting links so they focus on title and consider description as just mandatory field to be filled... which is NOT right for both directories and for internet as a whole.

It's good to rewrite all descriptions and most of the titles so you dont get duplicate content into your directory .. but I understand your feelings when you notice the owner doesn't want to put any effort on it.

Choice i can completely relate with you regarding this, when my directories were completely free i was forever getting this.

I dont mind editing and even adding a few things but when its duplicated just to fill the minimum characters it isn't cool.

I even had lowered my min characters a few times to accomodate to anyone not wishing to write a great deal.

Its almost as bad as "You have a good site" as their description, or more recently i keep getting spammed with titles of "I love you" :) amusing, lol

I once had a submission where they used the description area to tell me to write a description for them.

I receive these kind of submissions with dumb descriptions only in my free directory!
They are nice in the paid directories, and if i see any mistake or feel uneasy with the description, i just edit it.. after all we are to have unique content in our site too :)

I will send you a good remedy for that. Will just PM you. It's FREE and you don't have to buy anything. The good ole bottle of snake oil comes from the snake itself and the snake merchant. It happens especially if there is nothing to do and income is not as good as it was.

This is EXACTLY the way things are done in my directory. Unique = Quality
IMHO, this is what review fee's are for. If you think you would spend too much time re-writing or crafting a new description, raise your review fee.

I get one or two descriptions like these but I am too kind-hearted, I just rewrite them.
