How long sould a server generally be down for general maintainance? My site has been down all day and i've been told its just due to server work. I just wanna know if this is actually accurate or if it is there way of telling me that they have no clue what is wrong.
following up to my question, do i have the right to request that they compinsate me for lost revenue.
Hello, What maintenance is this? If require KVOIP,maybe to require more time;thats if it is some hard work. If they want to clean up trojans, spams, fraud accounts, etc 3-4 hours at most. Regards
do i have the right to demand compensation for considerable lost revenue, and if so, what action do i take
Read the TOS Of the company. It may give refunds for downtime. But once again, If it is a notice downtime,It dont count in the time. Regards
now they tell me this is due to an "urgent hardware failure..." any recommendations as to what i should do.
Either quit getting upset or move. Hosts do go down you know. Nothing they can do but try there best to solve the problem.
Well, unfortunately, it can happen. Several months ago, we had a server go down inexplicably. After trying relentlessly to bring it back up while trouble-shooting, we ended up having to swap the drives into a new machine. It was down for a few hours... luckily it's the only time somthing like that has happened. What time did it go down?
it has been down sinc 6 this morning. 10 hours and counting, they say they are working on it. God kows, my site makes xxx per day and right now it is making 0! so you can see why i might be a bit bothered by this.
Bothered? You should be shitting right now, which i'm sure you are. I thought maybe it was only a few hours, but 10 hours.. you should be all over them and definitely demand a refund, read their tos.
i plan on it, this is unexplainable, i dont care who they are, they need to have things in place to handle something like this from happening... I dont pay hosting fees for nothing
site is still down they say it will be back in a few hours, do i have any legal standing to demand compensation for lost revenue., to make it clear we are not talking a few bucks...
You need to read their TOS to see if you have any legal standing...what does it say about downtime?... also, if you need a host to be up 100% of time time...make sure you are paying a decent amount? (get a dedicated server from rackspace...a few hundred a month...but 100% uptime guaranteed last i checked...)
You don't have any legal standing. Don't even bother looking in their TOS. No host will compensate you any money on lost revenues. The best they could do is give you a free month of hosting or some discount if they are nice but they aren't obligated to. On another note, I offer dedicated server hosting ^_^. You can look at the offers at www.wdservers.com thewird
Hey, If they had announced like 2-3 hours ahead before taking the machine down, I am sorry you wont be refunded my your host. Also if you earn XXX from your website, should you probably thinking of setting up a dedicated DNS server and have a fail-over slave server? This will help keeping your website up all the time! This should also help if your host doesn't allow you to use more than your alloted data-transfer usage rate. Then you can keep swapping between servers without downtime or what so ever.
