You might be here for the chit chat, back slapping and small talk but I have better things to do and I just want to make sure that your chums get the message. I really couldn't care less whose toes I step on but like I said none of this would have been necessary if they had the balls to acknowledge the need to change.

Bobby i for one have always liked your posts!
but this subject for one makes me have a headache,
it has been over discussed, brutally disected from all angles,
over emphasised and blown apart w/o considerations,
    vampirishly sucked from all ends!
    much like the word QBC!

Google just (suppossedly) penalised 60 odd directories,
and count the number of reactions to it, may be well 100 times to it.

we have done more damage than google possibly wanted!

by discussing this we only harm our own industry, as topics like these will hit serps just above our own directories,.... so whats your perspective client reading!

i for one support this, the internet is one big democracy, everyone should and be allowed to launch what he wants, and no one else has a right to discourage anyone,

its like finding your hobbies/ niche, you will never know what ur good at, till u try all the things!

u may be a loser in 10 things, but may find sucess in a thing u never thought u would!

new are welcome, as their success or failure is directly dependent on themselves, and does not bother anyone of us,.... unless someone gets threatened by their success.

    Amen

As i said in the other thread, directories primarily are a B2B business model, but a B2C tinge has to come for the end user to come to directories!

    ::EvilGrin::

anyone here remembers The GodFather, the movie, when Clemenza is teaching Michael to shoot a gun, just before Michaels meeting with Sollozzo and the NYC cop. Michael asks how bad will it be, Clemenza says stuff like this happens every five years....

all this reminds me of just that,.... especially reading this thread ;)

no offence to people who got penalised, I hope this is not permanent, i like some of those guys,....though cant comment on all, dont know all:p, just a newbie here! .

Granted that nobody would use a directory for that, however if there was a niche directory for Mental Health Disorders, someone might.
But still, I ask again, if Google clearly says that we should make site for visitors, and directories aren't for visitors, why do we make them?
So for a directory to exist, it must work on providing value to an end user.

For most general directories the end user is and always will be Google itself. Few will ever pass real traffic but so what? Concentrate on one specific theme, do it right, start networking in your chosen field and before you know it you will be drawing organic links. Worries over.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

Yes- niche directories hold the future like my high quality (according to workshop's view:p) Online Shopping Index - that aims to provide specific information to specific surfers.:D

Hopefully, over time many people would find soon to be resources on this directory as useful informations and get benefit.;)

I don't own a directory, so please don't tell me that I post because of some loss to my directories.

I do think that somewhere there is a use for general directories, we just need to re-package them a little and represent them.

Don't own, don't know nothing about...
So what are you doing here?
Do you know anything about web sites, about html or coding, or seo?
Show us your work so we can know what your posts are worth.

    But I'm sure you won't.
Not possible for poor PROVOCATEUR... :D

So it has become taboo to be a member of DP if I don't own a directory?
July 2005, I started a directory, and sold the site almost a year ago.
I am currently creating a custom coded directory, yes I know plenty about html, css, php, I don't need to show you anything.
And you need to mature a little, I post something that you don't like, because it puts you in a spotlight that you want to ignore, and what do you do? You question my credibility instead of addressing the problem before you and all of us.

Because you write posts one by one and have nothing interesting or constructive to say.
Because all your posts are nothing else as provocations and you know about it.
Because you have no intention to create anything as most of time you spend on DP starting super-stupid threads.

And yes I do not like poor boys talking seriously about things they have no idea at all.
    Why should I?

YEah I saw that long ago. No Comments on this. I still wonder whats the end use of that site. I see that we type a directory URL and it gives the list of backlinks pointing to the directory. You don't need to index things for that. Its a minutes job using Google SOAP API and i am sure you used that :D

Whats the use of making a robot just to know the number of back links to a directory ?

Once a directory as been indexed back links are not important. That is unless you are plugging for high serps and thats a waste of time since most users use search engines to search for stuff.

    Beats me!
