Hello I'd like to ask about how my site gets alexa rank must the visitors have alexa toolbar installed in their PC's? so alexa tool bar is sending information about sites it has visited? or i should put a code in my site so it checks if the visitor has an alexa toolbat installed then it reports to alexa site Cheers Adel
I always thought that it was based on thier toolbar, so from traffic but only from people with the toolbars, most people with virus protection software may not have it installed, because when I tried to install it, my norton gets upset, thus I do not use the toolbar
You actually do need the toolbar to register the "hits" with alexa... When a user visits a site using the bar , it registers with Alexa and so affects your rank. So 1000 users visiting your site without toolbars will have zero effect on your Alexa rank.. If you visit your own site using an Alexa toolbar once a day for 3 weeks ( as an example ) you'll notice a difference in your ranking.. Which means that it is easily manipulated. I currently run a service whereby webmasters can signup and "surf" with the Alexa bar installed and get better ranks.. And by admissions , of course its manipulation of the rank , but where theres a will , theres a way ! Best of luck!
Check your Web logs for "Alexa" and thats why your rank gets affected.. How else would Alexa know that 1000 users without a toolbar have visited?
Sorry the other method which i forgot.. ( which you're using in SIG ) but ive never tested is the Alexa redirect method....
Traffic traffic and lots of traffic. Some how its depends upon niche also, webmaster related site might have a decent Alexa rank compare to dating site, though they have same volume of traffic.
if you are using a new site and have yet to submit your site to the major search engine including alexa, then here you can submit to each individual search engine and let them list you in..Free Submission to major search engine
I think webmaster related sites have webmasters visiting , who would tend to be intereted in using the toolbar over a person visiting website.. I think the proliferation of alexa toolbar is primarily in the Asian/Indian region.. I must dig out the article i saw that on.. Also read http://gigaom.com/2006/11/21/alexa-down/
Alexa.com is a subsidiary of Amazon.com and is a website which provides information on traffic levels for websites. The Alexa rank is measured according to the amount of users who’ve visited a website with the Alexa toolbar installed. In this article, I’ll examine the importance of the Alexa Rank as it relates to site monetization while briefly discussing some of the weaknesses involved in using Alexa ranking as a reliable traffic measure for any website.
well, to improve alexa ranks, you need webmaster traffic, from forums, directories, blogposts, etc! then your alexa ranks will improve! here are some methods to improve alexa ranks!
That's a little misleading. Your visitors don't all need the toolbar installed, but the traffic is only tracked from those that do. Therefore the more of your visitors that have the toolbar installed, the higher your rank will be in proportion to your *actual* traffic. You can try things like this to boost your rank: http://blogsformoney.com/post/Boost-Your-Alexa-Rank---Install-The-Alexa-Toolbar.aspx I posted telling my visitors they can boost their Alexa rank by installing the toolbar (which is correct). However I didn't tell them to benefit them, I told them to increase the portion of my own visitors that have the toolbar
Not 100% sure but have a firend who gets about 10,000 uniqe visitors per day with an averate pages/visitor at 25 Which makes his site much visited site than my site. But my directory with 3500 to 4000 uniques a day is at better Alexa rank. For sure users with Alexa toolbar make an impact.
I've been blogging the same amount of time as him (well actually less) but have a higher rank. If this info is so good why isn't he using it? http://www.alexa.com/data/details/t...00&w=610&range=3m&size=Medium&url=mozilla.com
