I mentioned on my site that I wanted to get it's content indexed first before the article directories to avoid duplicate content issues.

But this was challenged as incorrect and stated that Google doesn't care who had the article first or even if all the other duplicates point back to the original stating it is the source of the information. Google will disregard this and only look at PR.

If this is true 'who will ever say PR doesn't matter ever again?'

It becomes the most important thing on the net and an open key to hijack anyones content.

I agree with sweetfunny. Google rarely differentiates between age of the content. Usually the better optimized page appears in the SERPs.

I have experimented a lot with article directories. I have observed that usually sites like ezinearticles get their pages shown in the SERPs - irrespective of where the content is published and cached first.

They will not answer this question as it is very difficult to say!

That's why they have phased out supplemental results

And also they are good at indexing some non existent pages!

The very fact that content could be hijacked is why document inception data is kept and whoever told you all that matters is PR is a blooming idiot.

Please read the information at this site.

    http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2005033978

Anyone who tries to tell you facts about a 3rd party company is merely offering speculation and hype.

Lastly who cares what Matt Cutts has to say?..he cannot / will not reveal inside information that will help websites to improve organic results rankings.

Also with 1000s of alerts each day with his name hitting his email box it stands to reason, he will not respond.

What if I add some sort of link bait to the matt cutts alert to get his attention?

Like matt cutts is a big girl and I challenge matt cutts who is a big girl to a matt cutts fist fight out in my cubby house.

ps please mr. matt cutts bring your own gloves I only have enough money for one pair because my adsense earnings dropped. I think some site with a higher PR than mine scrapped my content and now I'm not in the index :(

Why would you want the same article to appear on your website an some article directory ? Write new one and you are good.

What about people who steal content and actually get ranked higher than the original content?

If Google sees that an article on one site is getting linked to by a lot of other sites, while the same article on your site has no links, they won't care if it was on your site years before the other site, as the other site is the one that the rest of the internet thinks is more important.

Source documents are so under rated. Reading the full backlog of google patents has to be a must for anyone at all serious about thinking like a search engine may.

Very true...it is a bit boring to read through all of them but the information supplied and the mere possibility that these items are used means that one must at least consider that it could be implemented.

I think one of the best at deciphering Google Patents is Bill from seo by the sea.

    http://www.seobythesea.com/

He does a great job reading through each and offering points of view.

Whichever is indexed first should be the owner because it is easy to implement
in an algo and it will be in most cases be right. There could be some collateral damage though.

I have also seen this happen, even if the content was already indexed and I added that article to free directories, they generally ranked higher than my site!
