    yup..googol is a mathmatical phrase for a 1 with a hundred zeros behind it if im not mistaken

    It is a mathematical term, but the name was suggested by a company who Google (at that time nameless) had hired. I remember seeing something about this on "on the money" (a news show on cnbc). The same company also named the Zune apparently...

    None of the above, it wasnt "derived".

    Just like there lack of HTML skills(as to why the home page code is so simple), they typo'd/couldnt spell the domain on registration. It was ment to be googol.com
