ISOHunt Blocks US Visitors

BitTorrent users in the US have just lost another popular public BitTorrent tracker site with ISOHunt's recent announcement that it has decided to begin blocking access by US visitors effective immediately.

Jacqueline Chooljian, a federal judge for the Central District of California in Los Angeles, ruled back in May that TorrentSpy had to begin tracking users' activity on the site despite that fact that there was no existing mechanism to do so and that the action in itself would violate its clearly defined privacy policy.

Rather than violate user privacy, TorrentSpy decided to simply cut loose the US and leave it to its own devices. ISOHunt, faced with similar legal wranglings as TorrentSpy, decided to follow a similar path and cut loose the US as well.

Keeping in mind that there are many legitimate uses for using P2P and Torrents, I find this invasion of privacy somewhat creepy.

That's sad. It's my favorite torrent site.

thats fair enough, companies are loosing hell lot of money, finally its gonna effect the people, those who work in those companies would loose jobs if the co. does not perform.

Oh well, I guess its users will either have to use a proxy or move on to BTjunkie, Pirate Bay, Demonoid, or one of the dozens of other bittorrent sites. This decision does nothing to stop piracy in the United States.

should not use torrent sites that are based in the uk, it was obvious this would happen at some point.

I agree, but it seems the MPAA/RIAA are tightening there noose on the bittorrent network.

One can understand how it is difficult not to bow in to the pressure...
