as far as i know trademarks are registered for a specific country (USA for eg) and for the trademark to be valid in other countries you need to register it there too i just want a confirmation/lightening up on this thanks
As far as im aware you only need to register your trademark in a European country and that trademark is valid for the rest of Europe then. as for outside of Europe, i have no idea mate.
about europe i know that the european union enforces trademarks in all countries(im from europe also) i'm interested in countries from other continents
I believe there is an international convention or treaty linking or allowing other countries to recognize trademarks from other countries.. same goes to copyrights... what needs to be registered to a specific country is the business and other permits concerning business and trade.
There is an international convention (from Madrid initially signed in 1891), which includes EU-27, USA, China, Russia and Japan. I am right on this as I intend to register my domain names as trade marks. Also there is and option to register trade mark for a single country..at least here. Does someone knows how much this would cost and what time it will take(the international trade mark). Also am I able to register only the trade mark, without having to register a company?
i found a list but you have to pay to view the trademarks(about 3Euro for each trademark) (i forgot the URL)
This one search over 20 coutries for trademark registration, the last time I use it, it was free though can be a little slow most of the time http://www.surfip.gov.sg/ This one for eu: http://oami.europa.eu/CTMOnline/RequestManager/en_SearchBasic This one for the US: http://www.uspto.gov/ This one for PRC, not too sure if its free since have yet to register any trademark on behalf of my clients in China before. http://www.sipo.gov.cn/sipo_English/ More info can be found on internation IP/Trademark filling over at WIPO: http://www.wipo.int/madrid/en/filing// Not too sure if that's what you looking for but I use them to check on patent registration for a few of my client. I have a few other countries but not too sure which one you want. Not too sure if there is a unified database though that you can access for free. If you willing to pay, I can give several site that allows you to pull those data on pay per search or annual membership.
Thanks for the info. I have also found one - this is for the Madrid's convention so I guess it should be the unified one and its free: http://wipo.int/ipdl/en/search/madrid/search-struct.jsp
