I have my own gym at home. Had it for years. Just started using it to build up my muscles. Hoping to look like this one day:

You are gonna need more than a home-gym to become like that..

Vigorous training + Plenty of rest + Loads of protein supplement + Fat burners + vials and vials of anabolic steroids + hair remover spray + tanning oil - girlfriend ...lol...

Yeah machines can be ok for toning, for bulking, building 'most' machines are not as good as free weights.

With machines most of the time they take away your stabalizing muscles from working, giving you a 1/2 ass result.

+ the most important thing of all, the genetics to get there in the first place and huge, huge discipline.

I've never used machines either. But one of the problems with free weights (for me anyway) is doing it correctly. It's been long enough that I would need to work with a trainer, and I'm sure that any of the "gyms" around here don't have trainers.

Yes form is essential with free weights, can easily hurt yourself.

I use smith machine when i can't find anyone to spot me...otherwise it is all dumbell and barbell. (my gym doesn't have kettlebell:mad:)

Nothing beat deadlift + squat for bulking and strength. I gain 12 pound since i add them to my routine. I can grap basketball rim with both hand for the first time (not bad for a 5' 10" overweight Asian).

I am trying to lose some fat and get more speed by doing a lot of ladder drill. Hope i can dunk before next summer:D

Machines are for beginners... We have have Paramount and Cybex machines In our gym.. For almost every single muscle part..But nothing like free weights..

And yes we have over enthusiastic members who busted their back and torn their pectorals.. Safety first.. Maintain perfect form..and always ask for spotter if you are unsure about the load..

Even with perfect form and spotter it's easy to tear something when you go heavy ;)

    I LOVE going heavy.
