Hey there, I have been thinking about my friend's website and how he has a PR3 with only 3 backlinks. Maybe I am using a poor backlink checker. However, one thing I do know is that he uses feeds. So that got me wondering if RSS feeds are really good for seo? Does anybody have a list of websites to distribute these feeds? I would love to get the word out there about my client's new site. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Travis Walters
I think RSS feeds can help you get more traffic but I don't know if it can harm my SEO. But I've been using RSS feeds for about a month. I just use feedburner.
feeds are very good as a seo back up tool although if you want more back links you need to blog more lol
There is a big difference between "generating" and "distributing". If he is creating new pages with the content in his RSS feed, he's going to run into duplicate content issues. Brandon
Hello again, I was not necessarily creating the RSS feeds for more content. My ultimate goal was to drive more traffic to the website. I wanted to do this by distibuting RSS feeds to get more quality backlinks to the site. But the duplicate content issue does raise a question. I will show you how I had the RSS feed on the site: http://www.lukebouman.com/blog.cfm http://www.lukebouman.com/news.cfm You can see the feed icon by the titles. Do you think the search engines will see this as duplicate content? Maybe I should do something to my robots.txt file to prevent crawlers from getting this content? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks again. Sincerely, Travis Walters
Hey there, If I had the following in my robots.txt file: User-agent: * Disallow: /rss/ What would happen? 1. Would crawlers crawl the entire website except the rss directory? 2. Does this have any other effects to readers? For instance, if they subscribe to the feed after I distribute it, what would happen? Do my distributors still get the feed updates? Sorry for the dumb questions but I am new at the whole feed idea Thanks a million. Sincerely, Travis Walters
This is pretty "dangerous". You would also kick those RSS directories robots, the ones that keeps coming in incase you have something new to be added to their index. Content duplication is meant when you are using someone else rss feed and make that as your own content. I've looked at your site. It's at least a valid rss, so don't worry. Search engines will recognize those as feed and "separate" them with ordinary web page.
twalters84 start a blog and blog once a day about your niche product and this will work for you see my blog in my sig line"
I agree with above this exactly what a word press blog is capable of doing for your web presence meaning word press already has RSS built in to its templates or you could go with feed burner it is free
