Let's get some stuff sorted out. 1. It get's annoying when people say that they know what the future holds. Saying things such as "I know that Google will un penalize Site A" or any similar posts about what people "know". 2. Can you please stop arguing about bidding directories? All the people that don't own/submit to them hate them, and everyone that owns them loves them. It's always going to be a fight, it's called protecting your investments. So everyone that owns a bidding directory has a right to defend them, that's what you do, you protect what you own. 3. People that say that all directories aren't about PR, are either A. lying, or B. ignorant. What real value do most directories provide to end users? By end users, I mean non-webmasters. A.K.A. people that do not frequent this forum regularly. 4. Directories shouldn't be about pagerank, one day I hope to see directories provide value to end users. 5. End users don't give a rat's ass about pagerank., they care about quality information 6. EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THIS PLANET IS GREEDY. We are all out to do something for ourselves, some just a little more aggressively than others. So please let's not pretend that we are perfect little angels that do everything for the good of the end user. I hope that myself, and others will strive towards being closer to being less self centered, but we will always be greedy. it's just a matter of degree of magnitude of greediness. 7. Red rep me if you want, reputation and post count mean nothing in the end.
I'm beginning to like you and your style. No BS and straight. A little bit more I might join you in your crusade.
I love Digitalpoint with all my heart, well maybe not nwith all my heart, but this forum sure makes my day worth it. Look at this lovely reputation comment I received "stfu faggot go fuck your mom" whew boy, gotta love everyone's favorite diss, the momma diss. Anyway, thanks for those of you who agree with me, it gets tiring reading 100 posts that just say the same thing that someone else said yesterday. it's all speculation.
Agreed, i just then to skip the assumptions as it tends to get nasty and boring.. Lets do business and much sucess to us all (non directory owners included)
I am a directory owner and I completely agree with you. I love when people rant, it makes for a good time. Great topic of conversation.
Ranting is one thing... Totally attacking someone when they are "down" is another. (that to me is a Big NO NO) PS... congrats to bobby for the nastiest red rep ive ever heard off I sent ya some green to get rid of that clowns red rep thx malcolm
I like to hear the 'on the spot FACTS' these people cry with nothing to back it up. I like to read the 'personal attacks' as it shows true intention and true colors of your peers. I like to read the animosity geared towards others and their endeavors because of another person's failed business venture. (e.g. they have to say how great they(director(y/ies)) are, because nobody else will) I'm enjoying reading DP lately more than wanting to post. I like directories; to own and operate as well. p.s. - don't worry about red reps. it should never play part in anything.
Thanks, I can handle it when people are jsut pissed at me and red rep me. It's annoying when people red rep you with inane comments like "DP isn't that cool" or one anti-american that once red repped me with "US of A" because I am from the good ol' US of A. I could write a whole 1,000 page website ranting about reputation, i'll save that for another day.
No offense taken, I think you posted something really similar in one of my other posts about some of the things I dislike in the directory industry. But it's cool, maybe I am a little overheated, that's me for you.
Naah. It's more of a compliment actually. These days I prefer working alone or with pretty much selected people. I have personally seen some coup d' etat that I personally participated, some were a success some were not, but later on the members who have ideals just change clothes and went on with the FRIENDS thing. Learning from this past experience too I am just cautious more. Especially after The Gold Rush.
One more thing. Regarding I wouldn't really agree. For example, my gaming directory has only gaming categories so I think it's user-friendly (gamer friendly ). Though the listings are paid, most that submit, linkback to the site, which is free. Does that mean that my directory isn't user-friendly, just because it has paid listings? Not at all. Here's a specific example. In my refer stats, it shows that I get traffic from people which type-in "mmowned.com" (mmowned is the most popular world of warcraft website). I don't understand why do they type it, but check: http://www.google.md/search?hl=ru&q=mmowned.com&btnG=Поиск&lr= Mine is at 4th position, and if you click that link you will see that there are 12 hits to that site from my directory. Not that much, but it proves that the directory is user-friendly. This is what I have to agree with. I reported to google my main opponent in the game directory industry, arcadeforce.com. Why? Check their submission guidelines. it's written : Same as you said, the user's don't give a about PR. So I agree that listing by PR is pointless, except if you have a directory of directories.
It seems every post I make on this forum I miss something, you are right, there are several niche directories that do naturally provide a valuable resource to visitors. +rep
Thanks for letting me know. It's useful information; good to know. It's funny that just a short time ago, you were PMing me about submitting to your game directory. Back to the point... Sorting by PR is the best method, in my opinion. That's why it is used. It's what the Google directory uses, in fact.
