Big and Small Directory Owners should Read and Implement this

Not just directories, content is king for all sites. Especially dirs putting only links is not a vise move so some useful content is always good.

Content will increse the visitors also will make site friendly in SE's

Realising this i have already starerd to put some good content in My Site

There are few sections i added and they are starte to update now.

Will be adding 10 more section which i have in my mind.

Underneath everything you see is a directory, albeit niche, that started in January 2005 as a Breeders Directory. By June 2005 there where so many extra features added, forum, live chat, classifieds etc. that it no longer looked like a directory. The site now ranks first on G for a plethora of Shetland pony related searches and receives over 800UVs/day.

The challenge is to find the niche in the first place!

Are we talking about niche directories or a niche site supporting a general directory? When does rich quality content turn into mindless stuffing?

 

And what if you have a general directory? How'd you go about deciding what niche to use on your general directory?
Or do you start adding 'general' content (and what exactly would general content be)??

 

Have a look at the link in my signature. Its a workshop site and the directory master is working on the Biodiversity category. She has just added a new sub-category for Birding and is building it up very very slowly. As a directory its already fully functional and although most members of this forum will disagree it offers real long term link value. I still have to get her onto the blog and thats not going to be easy. But she is the curator of a small and badly under-funded nature reserve and is already well known and respected in her field. Once she gets the hang of it, it is going to open doors for her and this is our guarantee of traffic with obvious spin offs into travel, real estate and other categories.

I would avoid general content because you cant fake it. Find something that interests you and do it right. In turn let other webmasters look for you and submit their sites for your review. We would be happy to add you to the list that we give out to buyers when we get enquiries.

 

Good advice and I have already been working on this for my directories. I am already adding articles to the "Latest Articles" section and its an ongoing process.
